Finance Manager
Channel Commercials hold the DAF Truck franchise, selling new and used trucks, offering an all makes parts and service back up with ancillary services from the Paint and Bodyshop, Signs and Graphics as well as Specialist Engineering, Truck and Van Conversions and Rail Wagon Maintenance.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance professional to lead our Accounts Department. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance, and driving business performance through effective financial management and insight.
You will work closely with Directors and Managers to support decision\-making, improve profitability, and maintain strong financial controls across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic \& Operational Management
- Develop and deliver the annual departmental strategy aligned with organisational objectives
- Monitor industry trends and best practices to inform decision\-making
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
- Oversee the day\-to\-day operations of the Accounts Department
- Analyse business and supplier relationships to drive cost efficiencies and profitability
- Review contracts, renewals, and insurance requirements
- Lead budgeting processes and review with senior stakeholders
- Prepare and submit statutory returns including VAT and annual company returns
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all payments
- Submit financial data to manufacturers (monthly and quarterly)
- Maintain and control the fixed asset register
- Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies
- Oversee credit control processes and ensure timely recovery of outstanding balances
- Conduct regular reviews of aged debt and enforce stop lists where required
- Provide cover for Credit Controller when necessary
- Supervise purchase ledger activities to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Authorise and code purchase invoices
- Ensure timely payment runs and reconciliation of supplier statements
- Provide operational cover when required
- Prepare trial balances and management accounts
- Review account movements, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Post accruals, depreciation, and other adjustments
- Deliver accurate monthly reporting in line with strict deadlines
- Support managers with financial insight and reporting
- Oversee payroll for approximately 270 employees
- Ensure accurate processing via Moorepay from start to finish
- Manage PAYE, NI, pensions, and benefits in kind
- Post payroll data to nominal ledger and ensure compliance with statutory requirements
- Lead audit processes and prepare statutory financial information
- Liaise with auditors and present findings to senior stakeholders
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and internal policies
- Manage financial tracking of hire contracts and vehicle stock
- Monitor depreciation and vehicle profitability
- Maintain accurate financial records for fleet operations
- Lead, develop, and motivate the Accounts team
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development
- Manage recruitment, succession planning, and training
- Oversee team workload, annual leave, and absence to ensure continuity
- Proven experience in a senior finance role (Finance Manager / Financial Controller level)
- Strong leadership and team management capability
- Excellent knowledge of financial reporting, payroll, and statutory compliance
- High attention to detail with strong analytical skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Experience with accounting systems and payroll platforms (e.g. Moorepay desirable)
