About Grand Station
Grand Station is a unique and prestigious events and banqueting venue situated within the historic Wolverhampton Low Level Station. We host a wide range of events throughout the year, including weddings, Asian and multicultural celebrations, corporate events, conferences, charity balls, awards ceremonies, Christmas parties and private celebrations.
We are looking for experienced Freelance Event Managers to join our team on an ad\-hoc basis, providing additional management support when required.
The Role
As a Freelance Event Manager, you will take responsibility for the smooth and successful delivery of events at Grand Station, working alongside our permanent Event Management and Coordination Team.
This is an as\-and\-when\-required role, with no guaranteed number of hours. Freelance Event Managers may be contacted when additional support is required due to event size, particularly busy periods, multiple events or staff availability.
The successful candidate will be confident managing events from set\-up through to completion, ensuring that our clients and their guests receive the high standard of service expected from Grand Station.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall operational responsibility for the smooth running of allocated events.
- Act as the main point of contact for the client and event team on the day.
- Conduct pre\-event checks to ensure the venue is correctly set up and ready.
- Liaise with the Event Coordinator, Sales Team, kitchen, bar, waiting staff, security, AV and external suppliers.
- Ensure the event follows the agreed running order, timings and client requirements.
- Manage event set\-up, including tables, chairs, décor, staging, AV and other event requirements.
- Ensure food and beverage service runs smoothly and to the agreed timings.
- Monitor the quality of service throughout the event.
- Deal professionally and promptly with any client or guest queries.
- Resolve problems calmly and effectively as they arise.
- Ensure dietary requirements and other special arrangements are communicated clearly to the relevant teams.
- Manage changes to the event schedule where necessary.
- Coordinate speeches, entertainment, first dances, cake cutting and other key elements of weddings and events.
- Ensure health, safety, licensing and venue procedures are followed.
- Monitor staff performance and provide direction to the event team where required.
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure they understand the venue's requirements.
- Conduct a final check of the venue at the end of the event and ensure the appropriate handover is completed.
- Report any issues, incidents, damage or client feedback to the Grand Station management team.

Experience \& Skills
Essential:
- Previous experience as an Event Manager, Event Supervisor or Senior Event Coordinator.
- Experience working within weddings, banqueting, hospitality, corporate events or a similar environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage a team and give clear instructions.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Strong organisational and time\-management skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Confident dealing directly with clients and suppliers.
- Ability to think on your feet and resolve issues quickly.
- Reliable and flexible with availability.
- Experience of large weddings and multicultural events.
- Experience of Asian, Indian, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, African, Caribbean or other cultural celebrations.
- Experience of corporate events, conferences and awards ceremonies.
- Knowledge of food service, allergens and dietary requirements.
- Personal licence or relevant licensing knowledge.

This is a freelance, ad\-hoc position, with work offered according to the needs of the business.
Events may take place during evenings, weekends and public holidays, so flexibility is essential. Freelancers will be offered shifts based on their availability and the requirements of upcoming events.
There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours or events.
