Support Worker - Day Shifts
New Leaf provides a "home from home" for young people aged 16–17 in Ofsted\-regulated supported accommodation. Many of the young people we support have experienced trauma, neglect, abuse, exploitation and/or risk of homelessness. Our approach is trauma\-informed, relationship\-based and focused on outcomes. The young person's voice is central to everything we do.
The Role
We are recruiting Day Support Workers to join our Wolverhampton team. Shifts run from 08:00 to 20:00\. You will support young people to build the skills they need for adulthood, including practical life skills, emotional resilience, healthy routines and positive decision\-making, while keeping their home clean, safe, stable and respectful.
Your consistency, boundaries and day\-to\-day support can help a young person move from crisis and uncertainty to stability, confidence and independence.
This role suits someone who stays calm under pressure, is clear with boundaries and is committed to high\-quality practice.
Key Responsibilities
*Independent living and daily support*
- Support young people to build independence skills, including cooking, budgeting, shopping, keeping their space clean and safe, and getting ready for their own tenancy.
- Encourage positive routines and structure that support stability and progress.
- You will be responsible for keeping the house clean, tidy and well maintained, including leaving it clean before every handover and carrying out deep cleans twice a week, so young people live in a homely environment they can be proud of.
- Keep the home safe and nurturing. Put risk management plans into practice and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
- Work professionally within safeguarding frameworks, recording and reporting concerns promptly and accurately.
- Support young people to register with essential services such as a GP, dentist, optician and other relevant health services.
- Go with young people to appointments where needed, building their confidence so they can gradually book and attend appointments on their own.
- Encourage and support young people to take part in education, training, volunteering and employment.
- Promote positive use of time and involvement in the local community.
- Build strong, trusting professional relationships with young people, offering consistent support, encouragement and appropriate challenge.
- Listen to and advocate for young people, and make sure their views shape the support they receive.
- Plan and take part in activities that build life skills, confidence, social connection and independence.
- Keep clear, factual and timely records, including daily notes, incidents, safeguarding concerns, outcomes and progress.
- Give detailed handovers to waking night staff so support stays consistent.
- Work with colleagues and professionals from other agencies (social workers, education providers, health services and others) to keep support consistent.
As a Support Worker at New Leaf, you will be expected to work in a way that promotes the following Eight Key Principles outlined by the National Children's Bureau:
- Ensure that young people feel safe and secure where they live and in their wider environment.

- Provide and respect young people's own space so that they feel proud of and live in a comfortable, well\-maintained and stable accommodation.
- Provide high\-quality, tailored support that sustains the young person's health and well\-being.
