Estimator - Industrial & Commercial Coatings

Commercial Coating Solutions is continuing to grow and we're looking for an experienced Estimator to join our commercial team in Stockport.

We specialise in the refurbishment and protection of commercial and industrial buildings across the UK through protective and decorative coating systems to roofs, cladding, curtain walling, steelwork and the wider building envelope.

We're looking for someone with a good understanding of coatings and surface preparation who can take an enquiry from initial drawings, specifications or a site visit through to a clear, commercially sound quotation.

The right person could come from a commercial spraying, industrial coatings, painting and decorating, roofing, cladding or wider building refurbishment background. What matters most is that they understand how coating projects are measured, prepared, priced and delivered on site.

This isn't a role where you'll simply be pricing from a spreadsheet all day. You'll be involved in understanding the building, measuring the works, interrogating specifications and BOQs, speaking with suppliers and working with our commercial and operational teams to establish the best way to deliver each project.

What you'll be doing

• · Reviewing new enquiries, specifications, drawings, schedules and tender documentation


• · Carrying out detailed take\-offs from drawings and electronic tender information


• · Supporting procurement by obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor prices


• · Visiting commercial and industrial sites to survey and measure proposed works


• · Producing accurate measurements and scopes of work


• · Preparing detailed cost estimates and customer quotations


• · Breaking down and reviewing Bills of Quantities to identify relevant scope, quantities and requirements


• · Obtaining quotations from suppliers, access providers and specialist subcontractors


• · Building up labour, material, plant, access and subcontractor costs


• · Working closely with our Commercial and Operations teams to ensure successful projects are handed over accurately


• Identifying exclusions, assumptions, risks and potential variations at tender stage


• · Reviewing alternative specifications and refurbishment solutions where appropriate


• · Maintaining pricing information and helping us continually improve our estimating processes


• Liaising with clients, surveyors, quantity surveyors and main contractors during the tender process

What we're looking for

· Previous estimating experience within roofing, cladding, façades, external refurbishment or the building envelope is important.

· You should be comfortable reading construction drawings, carrying out take\-offs and understanding how a project will actually be delivered on site rather than simply applying rates to quantities.

· Experience of protective coatings, cladding resprays or roof coating systems would be a major advantage, but isn't essential if you already have strong roofing or cladding knowledge.

You'll ideally have:

• · Previous experience in an Estimator or similar commercial role


• · Experience within roofing, cladding, façades or building envelope works


• · Strong drawing take\-off and measurement skills


• · Experience carrying out site surveys and building measurements


• · The ability to interpret specifications, tender documents and BOQs


• · A good commercial understanding of labour, material, plant and subcontractor costs


• · Confidence obtaining and negotiating supplier and subcontractor quotations


• · Good Excel and general IT skills


• · Strong attention to detail


• · The ability to manage several live enquiries and tenders at the same time


• · A full UK driving licence


• · Experience with estimating or take\-off software would be beneficial but isn't essential.
