Job description

The Corporate Performance Team sits at the heart of the GPA, working across the entire organisation (and with key external stakeholders) to help ensure that it is best delivering against short and long term objectives, vision and strategy and as such, is delivering the best possible service to our Clients and Customers.

This exciting new role will be supporting the Head of Enterprise Portfolio to deliver and run the organisation\-wide transition to enterprise portfolio management. This will enable a better strategic and tactical approach to delivery across GPA. The role will provide a view of all delivery and change across the organisation, ensuring the individual and cumulative impact of this is understood and managed. It will provide assurance that agreed change and delivery initiatives are delivered effectively and cost\-efficiently and that all the potential benefits are realised.

Note \- This is a new role and therefore the job description will remain flexible and subject to change as the role is matured. The current listed responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake some additional tasks not listed below , within the remit of their grade, to support the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on key workstreams for the development and delivery of enterprise portfolio function processes and systems, working closely with business areas including PMOs, finance, HR, risk, performance and benefits leads.

  • Lead delivery of the communications and engagement plan and build professional relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Lead the production of key reports and documents for senior governance forums to support effective governance, assurance and decision making.

  • Use digital tools to analyse data from across the Enterprise Portfolio to provide insights into progress against the portfolio plan that inform decision making and to identify potential risks/ delays and opportunities.

  • Provide support to the Head of Enterprise Portfolio to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the enterprise portfolio function and practice

  • Engage with stakeholders, providing updates, challenge assumptions and resolve issues, working closely with portfolio/programme/project offices across the GPA.

  • Provide training and awareness\-building sessions on the application of the enterprise wide portfolio processes.

  • Work to embed new behaviours and ways of working for successful adoption of Enterprise Portfolio processes.

  • Support the continuous improvement of the Enterprise Portfolio function helping shape, improve and mature the function.

  • Champion the adoption of best practice, encourages innovation and facilitates the capture and sharing of lessons learned across the portfolio.

Person specification

This role will have an element of design and build, helping lead the development of a new Enterprise Portfolio function. The post holder should be self\-starter, willing to navigate a landscape of high ambiguity, thriving in an environment where a "fixed manual" does not yet exist. You should be able to manage a complex workload independently, maintaining high standards of delivery with minimal supervision. The post holder should have a growth mindset, showing a willingness to learn and work towards relevant qualifications as the portfolio's maturity develops.

Experience \& Technical Skills

Essential criteria:

Demonstrable experience in project, programme or portfolio management with strong knowledge of governance, planning, scheduling, risk and issue management and benefits management in a complex environment.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to maintain levels of performance in challenging circumstances with experience of engaging at an organisational\-wide level.

Good analytical skills, experienced in utilising digital tools to interpret and analyse complex data.

Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and challenge key stakeholders.

Experience of sharing and promoting best practices and lessons learned to create a culture of learning that supports continuous improvement to optimise portfolio delivery.

Desirable criteria:

Working knowledge of change management and/or continuous improvement methodologies

Experience of working collaboratively across a range of disciplines with subject matter experts.

Experience of financial, benefits and resource management.

A suitable professional qualification or working towards one within project, programme or portfolio delivery.
