Electrical Design Engineer - Low voltage switchgear
Location: Weatherwell Industrial Estate, Clondalkin
Role Type: On\-Site, Full\-Time Permanent (4\.5 days/week)
Reports To: Head of Design \& Engineering Director
Hours: 37\.5 hours/week Monday to Thursday: 8:00 am \- 4:30 pm Friday (Early Finish): 8:00 am \- 1:00 pm
About the Role
Davenham Switchgear Ltd, a Legrand group company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineerto join our industry\-leading team at our Clondalkin headquarters.
This is a high\-impact, cross\-functional role combining electrical design, product ownership, and project delivery. You will take full ownership of all product\-related systems and enquiries, acting as the central point of contact from initial client engagement and design through to delivery and final handover.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will be responsible for managing RFQs, technical submissions, project coordination, and client interaction, while working closely with engineering, production, and site services teams to ensure successful project execution.
This role is ideal for an engineer looking to step beyond pure design into a position with greater ownership, commercial exposure, and end\-to\-end responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Product \& Category Ownership
- Take full ownership of all product\-related enquiries, projects, and technical solutions
- Manage and respond to RFQs, RFIs, and technical queries, developing fit\-for\-purpose solutions
- Act as the internal and external subject matter expert for our systems
- Drive consistency, standardisation, and continuous improvement across our offerings
- Lead and contribute to the electrical design of LV switchgear and related systems from concept through to completion
- Develop Schematic designs, Wiring diagrams \& Layout drawings using CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN)
- Ensure all designs meet company standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Manage product\-related projects from inception through to completion and handover
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders
- Coordinate with production and site services teams to ensure: Accurate scope delivery, Timely project execution, Effective site resourcing
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, maintaining quality and programme adherence
- Engage directly with clients during pre\-sales and delivery phases
- Provide technical input to support solution development and project scoping
- Deliver project updates and manage client expectations throughout the lifecycle
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), guiding clients through testing and documentation
- Manage and submit all required project documentation, including As\-built drawings, Test certificates, Handover documentation (H2C) \& O\&M manuals
- Ensure all documentation is uploaded to client systems (e.g. Procore) in a timely manner
- Maintain compliance with industry standards and internal quality processes
Experience \& Background
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in electrical engineering or data centre environment, ideally within LV switchgear or critical power systems
- Proven experience managing projects from design through to delivery
- Experience handling technical queries, RFQs, or client\-facing engineering activities is highly desirable
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering in power systems is an added advantage
- Certification in Project Management is an added advantage
- Strong knowledge of LV switchgear systems, Electrical design principles, Manufacturing and assembly processes
- Experience producing technical drawings, Calculations, Specifications
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential) or other design tools (e.g. EPLAN, Revit)
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Experience with Procore or similar documentation platforms (advantageous)
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is beneficial
- Strong problem\-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Confident communicator with strong client\-facing skills
- Self\-motivated, with the ability to operate independently and take ownership
- Detail\-oriented with a commitment to delivering high\-quality work
