EHV Protection and Control Systems Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced EHV Protection and Control Systems Design Engineer to join our growing team based at Thorpe Park, Leeds or Cheadle, Staffordshire.

You will work on a varied portfolio of transmission, distribution, renewable energy and battery energy storage projects across the UK. From early feasibility through to commissioning support, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and project teams to deliver high\-quality protection and control solutions that keep the nation's power flowing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce protection and control designs for HV and EHV substations up to 132kV.

  • Prepare protection philosophies, relay requirements, AC/DC schematics and technical specifications.

  • Develop protection single\-line diagrams, interlocking schemes and control documentation.

  • Support the integration of protection, control, SCADA and communication systems.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project delivery.

  • Attend technical meetings, design reviews and client workshops.

  • Provide engineering support during testing, commissioning and energisation.

  • Assist with technical proposals and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.
Qualifications / skills
  • Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline

  • Experience designing EHV and HV substations

  • Experience designing protection and control systems for HV and EHV substations

  • Knowledge of National Grid, DNO, ICP, renewable energy or battery storage projects is advantageous

  • Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations

  • Excellent communication and problem\-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams

  • A commitment to delivering high\-quality engineering solutions

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Salary up to £90,000, depending on experience
