Education Centre Manager
Location: Worcester, with occasional cover for our Kidderminster centre as and when required
Reporting to: Directors / Senior Management Team
Working Pattern: Full\-time, Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week, year\-round, with the exception of the six\-week summer closure and two\-week Christmas closure
Salary: £40,000 per annum pro rata
Probationary Period: 3 months
About the role
We are looking for an experienced education professional to lead our Worcester centre as Centre Manager, with occasional cover for our Kidderminister centre as and when required.
This is a key leadership role with responsibility for the day\-to\-day management, development and future growth of the centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of educational provision while also leading the team, developing relationships and identifying opportunities to grow the centre.
A recognised teaching qualification and experience within the education sector are essential, while commercial or business development experience would be a significant advantage.
We are looking for someone who combines strong educational experience with excellent leadership, organisation and communication skills. You will understand what good educational provision looks like, be confident leading and supporting staff, and be able to build strong relationships with students, parents, schools, Local Authorities and other professionals.
We are particularly interested in someone who can look beyond the day\-to\-day running of the centre and take a proactive approach to its development – identifying opportunities, building relationships, developing provision and helping to grow the centre sustainably.

Key Responsibilities Centre Leadership \& Management
- Take overall responsibility for the effective day\-to\-day running of the Worcester centre.
- Provide visible, proactive leadership to staff and students.
- Set clear expectations and ensure these are consistently maintained.
- Manage the centre's day\-to\-day priorities, capacity and resources.
- Work closely with the Directors and Senior Management Team to deliver the wider objectives of WLZ.
- Identify issues early and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Ensure the centre operates effectively, professionally and consistently.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and ways of working across the organisation.
- Ensure students receive high\-quality, appropriate educational provision.
- Use your experience as a qualified teacher to provide educational leadership and guidance.
- Support tutors in planning, delivery, behaviour management and assessment.
- Monitor the quality of teaching and learning across the centre.
- Lead and contribute to tutor observations and peer observations, ensuring that feedback is constructive, consistent and focused on improving teaching and learning.
- Use observations as part of an ongoing cycle of feedback, reflection and professional development, working with tutors to identify strengths and areas for development.
- Support tutors to implement agreed actions following observations and monitor progress where appropriate.
- Ensure individual student needs are understood and appropriately supported.
- Monitor student progress, engagement and outcomes.
- Work with tutors to identify and address areas where additional support or development is required.
- Promote high standards of behaviour, safeguarding and professional practice.
- Lead, support and manage the Worcester team.
- Ensure staff understand their roles, responsibilities and expectations.
- Support recruitment, induction and onboarding of new staff.
- Identify training and development needs.
- Manage staff performance and address concerns appropriately.
- Encourage a positive, professional and collaborative team culture.
- Work closely with the HR manager where required.
- Develop positive relationships with students, parents and carers.
- Respond appropriately to concerns, questions and feedback.
- Ensure parents and carers receive clear and timely communication.
- Help identify opportunities to improve the student and parent experience.
- Ensure students' educational and pastoral needs remain central to decision\-making.
A key part of the role will be developing and maintaining relationships beyond the centre.
This will include:
- Building strong relationships with schools and SENCOs.
- Developing relationships with Local Authorities and other referral organisations.
- Maintaining existing professional relationships.
- Identifying new referral opportunities.
- Representing WLZ professionally to external organisations.
- Following up opportunities and relationships proactively.
- Identifying potential partnerships and new opportunities for the centre.
We are looking for someone who is proactive and commercially aware.
The Centre Manager will be expected to work with the Directors and wider team to:
- Identify opportunities to increase student numbers and utilisation.
- Support the development of private tuition provision.
- Identify opportunities to develop new or existing services.
- Monitor enquiries, referrals and conversion.
- Monitor tutor utilisation at all times, available centre capacity and identify opportunities.
- Develop relationships that create a sustainable referral pipeline.
- Identify relevant tenders, frameworks and other opportunities.
- Monitor local demand and competitor activity.
- Contribute ideas to the wider marketing and business development strategy.
- Take ownership of agreed growth objectives for the centre.
Commercial Awareness
You do not necessarily need a traditional sales or commercial background, but you should be comfortable thinking about:

Facilities, Health \& Safety \& Compliance
The Centre Manager will support the Exams and Post 16 Manager, with the effective management of facilities, health and safety and compliance at the Worcester centre.
This will include:
- Supporting with day\-to\-day facilities and building\-related matters.
- Working to ensure relevant health and safety checks are completed and records maintained.
- Supporting the implementation and maintenance of appropriate health and safety procedures.
- Supporting fire safety requirements and ensuring relevant records and logbooks are maintained.
- Ensuring any issues relating to the building, facilities, health and safety or maintenance are identified and reported promptly.
- Supporting the follow\-up of maintenance, repair or facilities issues where required.
- Liaising with relevant external facilities, maintenance, fire safety and other providers where appropriate.
- Working collaboratively to ensure consistent facilities, health and safety and compliance processes across the centre.
- Supporting any other relevant facilities, health and safety or compliance requirements as needed.
- Maintain a strong safeguarding culture across the centre.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are appropriately reported and managed.
- Work within WLZ policies and procedures.
- Ensure relevant records and documentation are maintained.
- Support compliance with relevant educational, safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with the DSL and senior team where required.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Significant experience working within an educational setting.
- Experience of teaching and understanding the needs of children and young people.
- Experience of leading, managing or supporting staff.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time\-management skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence making decisions and taking ownership.
