About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Years SENDCo to join our friendly nursery team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced early years practitioner with a strong understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to support children aged 0–5 years across all nursery rooms.
The successful candidate will work closely with children, families, staff, and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate SEND provision throughout the nursery.
- Support children aged 0–5 years with additional needs across all rooms.
- Carry out observations, assessments, and monitoring of children's progress.
- Complete WellComm assessments and support speech, language, and communication development.
- Prepare and maintain accurate SEND documentation, records, and reports.
- Complete referrals to external agencies and professionals where appropriate.
- Develop and review Individual Support Plans and targeted interventions.
- Liaise effectively with parents, carers, health professionals, and local authority services.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to nursery staff in identifying and meeting children's individual needs.
- Ensure SEND practice complies with the EYFS framework, SEND Code of Practice, and nursery policies.
- Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and support strategies.
- Promote an inclusive environment where all children can learn and develop successfully.
- Level 3 Early Years qualification or above.
- Experience supporting children with SEND within an early years setting.
- Good understanding of the EYFS Framework and SEND Code of Practice.
- Experience completing observations, assessments, referrals, and support plans.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families, staff, and external professionals.
- Strong knowledge of child development from birth to five years.
- SENDCo qualification or willingness to undertake SENDCo training.
- Experience using WellComm assessments.
- Knowledge of EHCP processes and early intervention strategies.
- Previous experience leading SEND provision within a nursery or preschool.
