About the Role

Maison Café is looking for an experienced Duty Manager to join our team in Manchester.

We are a busy, quality\-focused café and restaurant looking for a hands\-on Duty Manager who can lead the team during service, maintain high standards and ensure every guest receives an excellent experience.

The Duty Manager will support the General Manager/Restaurant Manager with the day\-to\-day operation and take responsibility for the smooth running of the café during assigned shifts. This is a visible, hands\-on leadership role requiring someone who can confidently lead the team, manage service and deal with operational issues professionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the FOH team during busy service


• Coordinate FOH and BOH to ensure smooth and efficient service


• Allocate duties, manage breaks and maintain team productivity


• Maintain high standards of guest service, food, coffee, cleanliness and presentation


• Lead by example and remain visible on the café floor


• Welcome guests and ensure friendly, efficient and professional service


• Handle guest feedback, complaints and service recovery confidently


• Support reservations, seating and table turnover


• Coach and support team members during service


• Assist with induction, training and development


• Support opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and daily reporting


• Ensure food safety, allergen, HACCP, Health \& Safety and company procedures are followed


• Monitor cleanliness, presentation and operational readiness


• Respond quickly and effectively to operational issues


• Escalate significant staffing, guest or operational issues to senior management


• Support sales through excellent service, menu knowledge and effective upselling.

About You

Minimum 5 years' hospitality experience is essential.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a minimum of 5 years' experience in hospitality


• Has previous experience as a Duty Manager, Restaurant Manager, Assistant Manager or similar


• Has experience working in a busy café, restaurant or hospitality environment


• Has strong leadership and team management skills


• Is confident leading a team during busy service


• Has excellent customer service and communication skills


• Can handle guest feedback, complaints and service recovery professionally


• Can make calm and confident decisions under pressure


• Has a strong understanding of food safety, allergens and Health \& Safety


• Is organised and able to manage multiple priorities


• Has good commercial awareness and understands sales, productivity and labour


• Leads by example and is comfortable working hands\-on alongside the team


• Is reliable, professional and committed to high standards


• Is flexible to work weekends, bank holidays and varying daytime shifts.

Desirable: Experience in a café, brunch, bakery or premium casual dining environment; barista/coffee knowledge; basic kitchen operations knowledge; Food Safety Level 2; and experience using EPOS/POS or rota systems.
