Development Engineer
Your JobYou will lead the system\-level development of active medical devices (Class IIa) within Phillips Medisize's Device Development department. You'll take ownership of mechatronic design, system architecture, and design lifecycle delivery for smart inhaler platforms and related combination products. You will ensure devices meet defined requirements, are developed in line with regulatory expectations, and progress through design, verification, validation and industrialisation on time and within budget.
Our Team
You'll join the Device Development Department, a multidisciplinary group of mechanical, electronics, software, design assurance and programme teams working together to deliver next\-generation drug\-delivery technologies. We collaborate closely with external design partners, CMOs, test houses and industrialisation teams, operating from our Cambridge site. What You Will Do
- Mechatronic system design \- Lead the design of medical device mechatronics, including smart inhaler functionality.
- Design input \& specifications \- Generate and manage design input requirements, system specifications and mechatronic product documentation.
- Design history file ownership \- Create and maintain the DHF, ensuring compliant, complete and traceable documentation.
- Cross\-functional development \- Work with mechanical, software, electronics and QA teams to define, implement and verify mechatronic design outputs.
- Verification \& validation \- Plan, execute and document testing, validation and design reviews with internal and external partners.
- Industrialisation support \- Implement mechatronics into production, supporting process validation and device variant introduction.
- Supplier \& partner management \- Identify, engage and manage external design partners, suppliers and test organisations.
- Standards \& lifecycle improvement \- Contribute to defining and improving mechatronics development standards, tools and processes.
- Project leadership \- Support planning, budgeting, timelines and resource allocation in alignment with company policies.
- Experience in project management, mechatronic development tools and regulated design processes.
- Ability to lead design documentation, verification and validation activities.
- Demonstrated strengths in analytical thinking, decision\-making, conflict resolution, communication and cross\-functional collaboration.
- Recognised expertise in mechatronic system design for medical devices.
- Proven ability to manage matrix\-based project teams and external partners.
- Strong capability in design reviews, technical reporting and stakeholder communication.
- Experience implementing mechatronics into production environments, including process validation.
- Demonstrated creativity, change\-leadership and continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to work effectively across global teams, with willingness for limited travel
