We are now seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our Innovation team — someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, enjoys transforming ideas into practical solutions, and is excited by the opportunity to work on projects for household names and high\-profile clients.
THE ROLE
This is a hands\-on engineering design role. Working closely with the Head of Innovation and Senior Designer, you’ll take projects from initial brief through to production\-ready drawings and documentation — creating bespoke display structures that are as buildable and practical as they are beautiful!
Your day\-to\-day will include:
▸ Producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings and assemblies in SolidWorks.
▸ Developing technical solutions for illuminated and non\-illuminated display systems, frames and lightboxes — wall\-mounted, freestanding, and ceiling\-hung.
▸ Designing custom structures incorporating shelves, screens, bracketry, and graphic panels.
▸ Contributing to large\-scale museum exhibitions and both internal and external graphic installations.
▸ Keeping manufacturing practicality and cost\-efficiency front of mind throughout the design process.
▸ Collaborating with the wider team to hit briefs and deadlines without compromising on quality.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
▸ A background in engineering\-based design with knowledge of manufacturing processes.
▸ Working knowledge of SolidWorks — ideally with experience of assemblies, weldments, design tables, and configurations.
▸ A solid mechanical and structural understanding, with strong problem\-solving instincts.
▸ Confidence working with a variety of materials, including sheet metal.
▸ Clear communicator who can discuss and present design ideas effectively.
▸ Located within commutable distance of Huddersfield.
Desirable (but not essential):
▸ Experience designing for production in a bespoke manufacturing environment.
▸ Knowledge of material behaviour, fabrication techniques, and display installation methods.
▸ Basic understanding of electrical circuits and LED lighting.
