Job overview
The Deputy Head of Analytics supports the Head of Analytics in leading the Trust’s analytical function, providing highly specialist expertise in data analysis, interpretation and insight generation across clinical and operational services. The role requires advanced knowledge of NHS data standards, information governance, and analytical tools, with responsibility for overseeing reporting governance, developing predictive and demand‑and‑capacity analytics, and introducing innovative analytical methods. The post holder manages and develops analytical staff, ensures high‑quality and timely decision support for senior stakeholders, and represents the Trust on complex analytical matters, making this a senior leadership role requiring deep technical expertise and strategic insight.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Analytics with the day\-to\-day leadership and management of the Trust’s analytics function.
- Provide specialist advice on data definitions, data quality, information standards, analysis and interpretation.
- Lead the development of routine, ad hoc and real\-time reporting using tools such as SQL, Power BI and relevant reporting platforms.
- Manage and monitor the Trust’s information gateway, ensuring effective governance around reporting requirements, design, development, testing and deployment.
- Translate complex analytical information into clear, accessible and user\-friendly outputs for clinical, operational and senior stakeholders.
- Support planning, demand and capacity modelling, predictive analytics, benchmarking and scenario modelling across the Trust.
- Promote the development and use of self\-service analytical products and forward\-thinking analytical techniques.
- Ensure analytical outputs are accurate, timely, consistent and aligned with Trust priorities, national standards and information governance requirements.
- Lead analytical projects and provide decision\-support to divisions, clusters, PMO, Quality Improvement, Finance and other key teams.
- Manage, supervise and develop analytical staff, including workload allocation, training, appraisals, recruitment and performance management.
- Build strong working relationships with clinicians, managers, commissioners, NHS partners and other stakeholders to support effective use of information.
- Horizon scan for new data sources, analytical tools, quantitative methods and best practice that could benefit the Trust.
- Represent the Data and Analytics directorate at internal and external meetings, working groups and forums

Job Description
The Deputy Head of Analytics will support the Head of Analytics in leading the Trust’s analytics function, ensuring the delivery of high\-quality, timely and accurate information, reporting and insight across Trust divisions. The postholder will act as a senior information specialist, providing expert advice on data definitions, analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex information to support operational, clinical and strategic decision\-making.
The role will lead the development and governance of the Trust’s information gateway, rationalising reporting and embedding robust processes for requirements gathering, report design, development, testing and deployment. The postholder will also support the implementation of innovative analytical approaches, including demand and capacity modelling, predictive analytics, scenario modelling and self\-service analytics.
Main Duties

- Manage, supervise and develop analytical staff, including workload planning, training, appraisals, recruitment and performance management.
- Build effective working relationships with clinical divisions, operational teams, Finance, PMO, Quality Improvement, Digital colleagues, commissioners and wider NHS partners.
- Keep up to date with emerging analytical tools, data sources, quantitative methods and best practice, identifying opportunities to improve the Trust’s analytics capability.
- Represent the analytics function at internal and external meetings, working groups and forums.
- Support budget management, business cases and cost improvement work by using data and analysis to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.

Essential criteria
- Educated to Master’s level or equivalent specialist knowledge gained through postgraduate study or substantial relevant experience in analytics, health informatics, data science, healthcare, science or a related discipline.
