Deputy General Manager
We’re looking for a driven and hands\-on Deputy General Manager to join the team at The Newsroom \& Jackson The Tailor — a fast\-paced, high\-energy venue known for great food, an extensive array of cocktails, great beers and a buzzing atmosphere.
The venue is split over 2 levels – The Newsroom on the ground floor, and Jackson The Tailor on the lower floor. Both are bustling, high\-quality hospitality operations with events such as live music nights, Fringe show performances, whisky tastings, pub quizzes, and more.
This is a key leadership role within the business, working closely with the General Manager to deliver strong commercial results while building a positive, motivated team culture. You’ll play a vital part in the day\-to\-day running of the venue, with real opportunity to develop and progress within a growing independent hospitality group.

As Deputy General Manager, you’ll support the General Manager in leading the team and driving the overall performance of the business. You’ll be highly visible on the floor, ensuring smooth service, great guest experiences and strong team engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the day\-to\-day running of the venue across all departments
- Leading shifts and ensuring high standards of service, food and drink
- Assisting with sales performance, labour control and cost management
- Coaching, developing and motivating the team
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training
- Driving guest experience and handling feedback effectively
- Assisting with stock control, cash handling and compliance procedures
- Working with the GM and marketing team on promotions and local marketing initiatives
We’re looking for a confident and ambitious hospitality professional who’s ready to take the next step in their career.
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience as a Deputy Manager or Assistant Manager in a high\-volume bar or restaurant
- A strong understanding of service standards and team leadership
- Good commercial awareness (labour, costs, sales performance)
- A hands\-on, lead\-from\-the\-front approach
- A passion for hospitality and delivering great guest experiences
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- High energy, resilience and a positive attitude
- A desire to learn, develop and progress within the company
