Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious Dental Therapist to join our forward\-thinking dental practice. This role offers a fantastic balance of servicing NHS contracts and growing a private patient base.
You will be joining a practice with active principals who are keen to invest in long\-term staff, providing access to high\-quality equipment and materials. This position offers excellent opportunities for career progression, including mentorship and support for further training. While the core role involves delivering high\-quality oral health care and preventative dentistry, there is significant scope to develop private aesthetic dentistry, including composite bonding.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a vital role in our clinical team, operating under Direct Access where appropriate, and collaborating with dentists to provide comprehensive care.
Clinical Duties:
- Restorative Work: Perform proficient direct restorations on primary and secondary teeth.
- Extractions: Undertake the extraction of deciduous teeth.
- Hygiene Services: Perform professional dental cleanings, including scaling (supra and subgingival) and polishing/air\-polishing.
- Preventative Dentistry: Provide comprehensive Oral Hygiene Instruction (OHI), dietary advice, and fluoride application to prevent oral disease.
- Assessments: Conduct full oral health assessments, periodontal charting, and accurate recording of patient histories.
- Radiography: Take and evaluate dental radiographs using appropriate imaging techniques.
- Aesthetic Scope: Opportunity to undertake private aesthetic work, specifically composite bonding (if competent) and teeth whitening procedures.
- Manage patient appointments efficiently to ensure a smooth workflow.
- Maintain strict sterilization protocols and cleanliness of treatment areas (HTM 01\-05 compliance).
- Keep detailed, contemporaneous records of treatments provided and follow\-up care instructions.
- Work collaboratively within a team of dental professionals to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Essential:
- Full registration with the GDC as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist.
- Proficient in direct restorations.
- Competence in extracting deciduous teeth.
- Strong understanding of human anatomy, particularly oral and maxillofacial structures.
- Excellent communication skills to educate, motivate, and reassure patients.
- Knowledge of medical imaging techniques relevant to dentistry.
- Organized with meticulous attention to detail in record\-keeping.
- Competence in Composite Bonding.
- Proficiency in CAD software for dental design or imaging.
- Experience with Direct Access protocols.
