Dementia Project Worker 25/26

The Project Worker is responsible for supporting the implementation of the overall person\-centred psychosocial educational programme for the people with dementia and their carers. They will work under the supervision of a qualified professional, and be line managed by the Project Manager.

Duties and responsibilities

Organising and facilitating meaningful individual and group activities that are informed by the members identified interests and by best practice models (e.g. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and Lifelong Learning)

Assisting with developing the CST\-based Brain Gym programme with specific goals for allocated members.

Supervising activities and respond to the members wishes and problems in an appropriate and timely manner

Recording attendance and engagement of members within daily activities

Informing and reporting to the Project Manager regarding development and achievement of monthly goals

Cooperating in the creation of a person\-centred dementia friendly environment and atmosphere continually

Liaising with the family members as appropriate in order to ensure the activity programme is appropriate to the needs of their loved ones and supportive of them as carers and family members.

Support provision of light refreshment/hot drinks/hydration/snacks as required.

Regular discussions with the Project Manager to consider their own work plans with the members.

Actively participate in regular team meetings and professional 1:1 supervision

Encourage and support volunteers and students to work within the Brain Gym project.

Skills and experience

Training at Tier 1 Dementia awareness

Training in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy \[CST] Techniques

Training in Level 2 Food hygiene

Personal or work experience in a care environment

An understanding of the quality of life needs of people with dementia and their carers

An understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers

Knowledge of recent national and local legislation and policy including the Health and Safety and the Mental Capacity Act, DoLS, and Safeguarding vulnerable adults

Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders

Able to adapt own communication skills as required in relation to others cognitive level of functioning.

Experience of leading and delivering a programme of group\-based activities

An understanding of the need for member confidentiality

Basic IT skills (Word and email are essential)

Demonstrate an understanding of HR policies and procedures

Ability to identify and undertake vital conversations appropriately

Adopt a person\-centred approach to members needs/concerns

Good verbal and written communication, listening, and time management skills

Ability to adapt to organisational change

Ability to adapt to technological advances in the workplace
