Data Manager
IASME is committed to helping organisations improve their cyber security through an effective and accessible range of certifications.
A large part of the success of our rapidly growing company is due to the diversity of our team. This allows us to see things differently, approach old problems in a fresh way and offer new solutions.
Fairness and inclusion are central to our business and we bring these values to everything we do.
This role offers a mix of working from home and in the office. A BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check will be required for this role.
We are looking for a Data Manager to build a resilient, values\-led data service that supports our mission: building UK cyber resilience through accessible certification and a network of trusted experts.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys making data useful and trustworthy for others, not just producing dashboards. Success in this role is about enabling colleagues and partners to make decisions with confidence, responding quickly to stakeholder needs without losing consistency, and building measurement that is credible in government\-adjacent contexts.
We have regular monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for an established government client, alongside a steady stream of ad‑hoc questions that need fast, accurate answers. We are also expanding and bringing together data from multiple schemes so we can provide richer insight internally and externally.
We are a values\-led organisation that harnesses our inclusivity to create an innovative and agile work environment, we encourage courageous decision making, respond quickly to changing priorities and are authentic in how we show up for our clients, partners and each other.
Roles and Responsibilities
Lead and support the team
Lead and support a small data function to deliver reliable reporting and insight.
· Set clear expectations, support development, and manage performance fairly and thoughtfully.
· Manage the consultant data science expert effectively, including prioritisation of work, ensuring knowledge transfer, and reducing key‑person risk.
· Create a team culture where people feel safe to contribute.
· Create an environment where different working and thinking styles are genuinely valued, and where every team member understands how their contribution connects to the bigger picture.
· Handle team challenges calmly and constructively.
Strategy, measurement and impact
Own and implement a data strategy that enables IASME to:
· Demonstrate real‑world efficacy and impact of certification.
· Support growth and adoption across sectors and regions.
· Provide credible, transparent insights to stakeholders.
· Enable data‑driven decision making internally.
Establish and maintain a clear measurement framework (metrics catalogue, definitions, targets and reporting cadence) that can be used consistently across schemes.
Work with clients, scheme leaders, communications, and SLT to agree what “impact” means in practice and what can be evidenced credibly from the data.
Reporting and insight delivery
Own the operational delivery of regular reporting cycles (monthly, quarterly, annual) to a high standard of quality, clarity and timeliness.
· Ensure reporting remains credible and auditable: clear definitions, repeatable processes, and appropriate caveats where needed.
· Build a close relationship with client\-facing teams (including account management and communications) so reporting and ad‑hoc answers are aligned to stakeholder context, tone, and timelines.
· Provide fast, accurate responses to ad‑hoc queries from key clients and internal stakeholders, maintaining a “single version of the truth” approach.
· Produce and socialise insight that supports improvements in UK cyber resilience and helps IASME understand growth opportunities and risks across schemes.
Partnership with Technology Development (AWS single source of truth)
Work closely with the Technology Development team to ensure that the AWS data environment and pipelines deliver the datasets, refresh frequency, and dimensional detail required to meet reporting and insight needs.
· Translate reporting and analysis needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria for data outputs (quality, completeness, timeliness, reconciliation, explainability).
· Support testing and validation of pipeline changes and help prioritise delivery work by translating stakeholder needs into clear trade‑offs.
Reporting tools and ways of working (Power BI, Data Taco and beyond)
Review the current reporting toolchain, including Power BI and Data Taco, and assess:
· Reliability and turnaround time.
· Ease of maintaining and extending reporting.
· Fitness for purpose for stakeholder needs (government, SLT, internal teams).
· Key‑person dependencies and operational risk.
· Governance, versioning, and transparency of numbers.
Make evidence\-based recommendations on how we should evolve our reporting and insight approach over time, including process improvements and (where appropriate) tool changes.
· Lead implementation of agreed improvements while protecting continuity of essential client reporting.
Governance, quality and assurance
Establish and maintain good data governance practices: Information Asset Register, data dictionary, metric definitions, ownership, change control and documentation.
· Work with the Data Protection Manager and Security teams to ensure data governance supports appropriate security, privacy, retention, and lawful processing requirements.
· Introduce proportionate data quality monitoring and reporting assurance practices suitable for government\-adjacent reporting.
· Develop internal ways of working that enable self‑serve insight where appropriate, without undermining accuracy or trust.
These responsibilities may be expanded or varied as required by the business.
Experience required:
· Demonstrable experience leading or managing a data/insight or BI function, including delivering recurring reporting and handling ad‑hoc requests in parallel.
· Experience working with senior stakeholders and/or external clients where outputs require credibility, transparency, and careful handling of definitions.
· Experience building close working relationships with client\-facing teams and using that context to deliver insight in the right form, tone, and timeframe.
· Experience improving inherited reporting processes or BI estates, making them more reliable, faster, and less dependent on individual knowledge.
· Experience working closely with a technology/engineering team to shape data outputs (requirements, testing, acceptance criteria), even if not personally building the underlying platform.
· People leadership experience, including developing junior colleagues and diverse teams and managing specialist external support.
Skills:
· Strong analytical capability: able to move from question → method → answer and communicate clearly what can (and cannot) be concluded.
· Strong stakeholder communication: able to produce clear written summaries and explain results in plain English to non‑technical audiences.
· Governance mindset: able to set and maintain consistent definitions, documentation, and quality checks so reporting remains trusted.
· Tooling fluency: strong BI literacy and confidence reviewing and recommending the best use of Power BI and other tools (including how information is published and consumed).
· Technical foundation: confident working with data using SQL and collaborating on modern data architectures (e.g., cloud data environments), with a practical focus on outcomes.
Desirable Experience:
· Experience in government, public sector, regulated environments, or organisations delivering services to government as a key client.
· Experience designing measurement frameworks intended to demonstrate real‑world impact or outcomes.
· Familiarity with certification, assurance, standards, risk, or compliance ecosystems.
· Experience supporting multi\-scheme or portfolio reporting (cross‑cutting insight across multiple products).
