Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) is an exciting, ambitious arts centre which offers a wide array of free exhibitions, theatre, music, cinema and comedy performances as well as creative learning and participation activities. Well\-loved and well used, it’s a relaxed friendly place attracting a diverse mix of visitors, situated in the leafy Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham. We are currently recruiting for Customer Service Assistants to join our catering department on a variable hour basis.

Job Description

We are recruiting for customer service assistants to join our catering department on a variable hour contract at Midlands Arts Centre. Hours of work will include weekends and evenings.

Principal Purpose of Post

To ensure the highest level of customer service is achieved at all times to all customers of MAC and MAC user groups.

Key Responsibilities

Operational

  • Deliver excellent customer service at all times and maximise customer satisfaction.

  • Work in all areas of the food and beverage operation including the restaurant, all concessions, bar and catering for events.

  • Wait tables, advising customers on the menu, taking orders correctly and delivering food and drinks to tables.

  • Develop a sound understanding of all products, menu items and differing offers between the restaurant itself and all concessions.

  • Produce drinks and snacks to approved company standards.

  • Keep all work and customer areas clean, tidy and well maintained at all times.

  • Help manage orders coming from the restaurant, concessions and ordering app to ensure all customers receive their orders in a timely fashion.

  • Keep all service areas well stocked and presented correctly at all points throughout the day.

  • Be well presented and wear the correct uniform at all times.

  • Assist in resolving any customer issues or complaints in the first instance; making a shift leader aware of any issues which require further assistance.

  • Assist the Commercial Hires and Customer Services teams in all secondary duties including ushering, assisting visitors etc in order to ensure smooth running of MAC as a whole.
General
  • Communicate well within the catering team and across the wider teams at MAC.

  • Build good working relationships and become a strong team player.

  • Assist in the staffing rota where possible.

  • Be pro\-active in self\-development.

  • Help maintain a high level of morale in all areas of MAC.

  • Be an ambassador for MAC.

  • Any other duties which may reasonably be required to support cross\-organisational needs

  • Implement MAC’s Environmental Policy and consider how this role can contribute to MAC’s sustainability goals.

  • To further, promote and ensure the implementation of the equal opportunities, diversity, safeguarding and health \& safety policies of MAC.
Administration
  • Maintain all HACCP and COSHH documentation including cleaning checklists throughout the day.

  • Gain a sound grasp of all systems needed, such as People HR and Rotacloud.

  • To maintain operational procedures, including practices as stipulated by Environmental Health and Weights and Measures.

  • Help maintain all records in relation to deliveries and stock.
Health and Safety
  • To aid in responsibly ensuring the hygiene, cleanliness and health and safety of the service areas.

  • To ensure that stock is rotated, labelled and stored in compliance with food hygiene procedures.

  • To comply with all fire and safety regulations.

  • Report any important issue to a line manager.

  • To implement and follow strict rules on personal hygiene

Person specification

Core (You should meet most of these requirements)

  • Experience working in a busy café or bar

  • Some basic food hygiene knowledge.

  • Ability to work under pressure. Ability to work as a team or independently.

  • Friendly and helpful, able to give excellent customer service.

  • Reliable, trustworthy and hardworking.

  • Flexible\- able to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
Desirable \- (You should meet some of these requirements)
  • Barista experience.

  • Bar work experience.

  • Experience working in an arts venue.

  • An interest in a variety of art forms and MAC as a venue and charity.

  • Committed to delivering excellent customer service.
