Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic special interest in Knee Surgery
This is a full\-time substantive appointment, consisting of 10 PAs, as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. The Trauma \& Orthopaedic Service runs over 2 sites, Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett Oupatient Centre and the appointee will be expected to travel to between both sites with adequate travel time allowed in job plans and expenses. The appointee will work with one colleague as a pair/team and when they are off main site, or on leave, the other team will cover their patients at the main hospital. The emergency is
only dealt with at the main hospital (Russells Hall Hospital). There are no emergencies are Corbett Hospital. The post holder will be expected to support the trauma and elective service and help the existing surgeons in developing the service to ensure a comprehensive service with particular provision of knee/soft tissue knee subspeciality.
The post\-holder will have a commitment for the provision of elective knee surgery especially soft tissue knee surgery and arthroplasty, as well as general (especially knee/soft tissue knee) trauma services at Dudley Group. It is expected that the post holder will play a key role in the development of knee surgery services in the trust, working with colleagues within the department and allied professionals in the therapy department.
Fixed sessions are as per the timetable below. There are elective and trauma theatre sessions, plus outpatient clinics for new and follow\-up appointments. These timetables are subject to confirmation with the post holder and may change depending on service reconfiguration. In particular there will be an option to run an additional list for soft tissue knee trauma cases every fortnight.
Professional Requirements
To ensure that up\-to\-date evidence/research based practice is brought to the knowledge of all colleagues and staff. To take an active role in Clinical Governance. To participate in ongoing clinical, multi\-disciplinary audit and promote research.
To ensure that any change in clinical practice is based upon research evidence, acquires the pre\-requisite Trust sanction via the New Interventions Committee and that sufficient resources are available to facilitate change in working practices, which will require income and expenditure balance.
