Construction Renewals Underwriter
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Construction Underwriter to join a well-established and highly respected renewals team within a leading insurer.
This role can be based in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds or London
This role focuses on managing and underwriting a broad portfolio of construction renewal business, working across a varied range of risks including electrical contractors, HVAC contractors, building services engineers, finishing trades, and general building contractors.
The position offers exposure to a diverse product suite including cross-class liability, professional liability, and property, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their technical underwriting expertise within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The Opportunity You will be responsible for managing renewal cases, maintaining strong broker relationships, and delivering exceptional service while ensuring underwriting discipline and profitability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Underwriting construction renewals within delegated authority
- Managing mid-term adjustments and referrals
- Building and maintaining strong broker relationships
- Working closely with technical teams and wider business functions
- Identifying opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional covers
- Providing market insight and feedback on underwriting trends
- Supporting wider team initiatives and projects
- Previous construction underwriting experience
- Strong technical underwriting knowledge
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confidence managing broker relationships
- Good IT skills including MS Office
- Progress towards, or willingness to study for, CII qualifications
