Concept Design Engineer - (Cockpit Architect)
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Concept Design Engineer (Cockpit Architect) to join a leading luxury automotive manufacturer within the engineering division.
Working within the Vehicle Architecture team, you will play a key role in shaping future vehicle programmes by developing innovative cockpit concepts from a blank sheet through to robust engineering solutions. This position combines vehicle architecture, CAD concept development and cross\-functional systems integration, ensuring that styling intent, package requirements and engineering feasibility come together during the earliest stages of vehicle development.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex packaging challenges while influencing vehicle concept direction across multiple future programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative cockpit architecture concepts for future vehicle programmes.
- Create and modify CATIA V5 CAD models to support concept development and system integration.
- Develop package solutions using Class\-A surface data and vehicle hardpoints.
- Integrate cockpit systems including:
- Instrument Panel
- Centre Console
- Seating Systems
- Occupant Packaging
- Safety Systems
- Human Machine Interface (HMI)
- Resolve technical and packaging conflicts through virtual engineering techniques.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, ergonomic and vehicle package requirements.
- Lead technical review meetings and present engineering solutions to senior stakeholders.
- Benchmark competitor vehicles and industry trends to support future concept development.
- Collaborate closely with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Programme Management and Group Engineering partners.
- Track concept maturity and communicate technical risks throughout the development process.
- Significant experience in automotive concept engineering or vehicle architecture.
- Advanced CATIA V5 CAD modelling skills.
- Experience developing CAD models from first principles ("blank sheet" concept design).
- Strong understanding of cockpit architecture and vehicle packaging.

- Interior Integration
- Experience working with Class\-A surface data.
- Strong technical problem\-solving and systems integration capability.
- Ability to present technical information clearly to both engineering and non\-engineering stakeholders.
- Experience leading engineering discussions and technical reviews.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Bentley, Volkswagen Group or premium automotive experience.
- Knowledge of Product Emergence Process (PEP).
- Vehicle Architecture or Whole Vehicle Engineering experience.
- Understanding of legislative and homologation requirements affecting cockpit systems.
- Awareness of Bentley or VW engineering systems.

Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
- Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
