Almond Valley Heritage Trust is an established visitor attraction and heritage charity in West Lothian.
We are entering an exciting phase of development and are looking for a creative, thoughtful and engaging Communications \& Membership Officer to help tell our story, promote our work and build stronger relationships with our visitors, members and communities.
About the Role
This is a varied communications role covering social media, digital content, membership, website management, e\-newsletters, community engagement, accessibility, branding and marketing.
You will develop and deliver our existing communications strategy, manage our brand and digital channels, support membership growth and identify new opportunities to promote Almond Valley as a leading visitor attraction in Central Scotland.
Working across the organisation, you will identify stories and marketing opportunities, create engaging content and help us reach a wide range of local, national and visitor audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media \& Digital Content
- Identify stories and opportunities for our social media channels.
- Plan, create and prioritise engaging social content.
- Grow engagement across existing channels.
- Manage comments and enquiries in liaison with the wider team.
- Support fundraising, projects and partnership activity through social media.
- Create photography and video content for digital channels.
- Write engaging copy for digital and printed marketing materials.
- Create graphics, posters and basic video content using Canva.
- Produce regular e\-newsletters using Mailchimp.
- Plan newsletter content and maintain mailing lists.
- Manage and update our WordPress website.
- Write news stories and refresh website content.
- Support SEO, accessibility and image management across the website.
- Build relationships with existing, new and potential members.
- Support membership recruitment, engagement and retention.
- Coordinate welcome and renewal communications.
- Develop materials and campaigns to promote membership.
- Identify new audiences and opportunities for membership growth.
- Deliver member retention and renewal campaigns.
- Build relationships with local community groups.
- Represent Almond Valley at local events, fairs and meetings.
- Connect with community groups through digital channels.
- Coordinate relationships and visits with schools and youth groups.
- Help ensure our digital and printed communications are accessible.
- Create image descriptions and subtitles for online content.
- Maintain Almond Valley's brand guidelines.
- Support on\-site signage and visitor information.
- Maintain online listings for Almond Valley and our events.
- Support print marketing and distribution.
- Monitor marketing data, audience insights, sales and ticketing information.
About You
We are looking for someone who can combine creativity with strong organisation and who is comfortable managing several different communications channels.
You should have:
- At least two years' experience working in a communications role.
- Experience engaging different audiences across multiple platforms.
- Strong copywriting skills and the ability to write in an engaging, informative and helpful way.
- Current knowledge and experience of running social media channels.
- Experience using Canva, WordPress, Meta, Mailchimp, YouTube and Microsoft Office, or similar platforms.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team.
- An interest in and commitment to Almond Valley's purpose and community.
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience working within the third sector and/or heritage sector.
- Experience working with funders and partners.
- A strong eye for visual communications and design.
- Knowledge or experience of accessible marketing and communications.
This is a full\-time role working 35 hours per week.
The role offers hybrid working, although you will be expected to work on\-site at Almond Valley in Livingston for at least three days each week.
