About the Company

Spot Solar is a new, ambitious solar energy business specialising in commercial solar and commercial power purchase agreements (PPAs). We partner with businesses to install, own, and operate rooftop and ground\-mounted solar systems on their premises, enabling them to access clean, affordable energy with zero upfront capital cost.

Based in Leicester city centre, we are entering an exciting growth phase and are looking for a driven Business Development professional to help build our commercial pipeline from the ground up. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a startup at an early stage, shape the business, and earn significant rewards through performance\-based commission.

Role Overview

As our Commercial Solar and Commercial PPA business development manager, you will be responsible for originating, developing, and closing high\-value PPA deals with commercial and industrial clients across the UK. You will target businesses with significant daytime electricity usage (e.g., warehouses, manufacturing, retail, offices, schools, distribution centres) and educate them on the financial and sustainability benefits of solar PPAs.

This is a hunter role with a strong emphasis on new business acquisition, relationship building with senior decision\-makers, and driving deals through to signature and financial close.

Key Responsibilities

\- Identify and prospect target commercial \& industrial clients with high energy demand.

\- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of PPA opportunities through cold outreach, networking, referrals, events, and strategic partnerships.

\- Engage with senior stakeholders (CEOs, CFOs, Facilities Managers, Sustainability leads) to understand their energy needs and present tailored solar PPA solutions.

\- Lead the full sales cycle: initial meetings, site assessments, proposal development, negotiations, and contract closing.

\- Collaborate with internal technical, legal, and finance teams to progress opportunities and overcome barriers.

\- Deliver accurate forecasting, CRM updates (e.g., Salesforce or equivalent), and weekly/monthly reporting.

\- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking functions.

\- Stay up\-to\-date with UK solar market trends, incentives (e.g., Smart Export Guarantee, planning regulations), and competitor activity.

\- Contribute to the development of marketing materials, case studies, and sales collateral.

\- Achieve and exceed personal and team sales targets.

Requirements

Essential

\- Proven track record in business development or sales within the renewable energy sector (solar PV, PPA, or energy services preferred).

\- Experience negotiating and closing complex commercial contracts, ideally Power Purchase Agreements or similar long\-term energy/financing deals.

\- Strong network or ability to quickly build relationships with commercial property owners, facilities managers, and C\-level executives.

\- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

\- Self\-motivated with a hunter mentality and high drive to succeed in a startup environment.

\- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable:

\- Degree in Engineering, Business, Law, or a related field.

\- Existing contacts in the Leicester / Midlands commercial property or energy sectors.

\- Knowledge of solar project economics, PPA structures, and commercial energy procurement.

\- Experience using CRM systems and sales pipeline management tools.
