Jefferis Engineering Ltd is entering its next phase of growth and we are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join us and play a key part in it.

This is not simply a role for someone to produce monthly CVRs and report the numbers.

We are looking for someone commercially sharp, confident and proactive who can take real ownership of the commercial function, work closely with our Directors and project teams, protect margin, manage risk and help shape how the business develops.

Jefferis Engineering Ltd is a specialist mechanical engineering business operating across two core areas:

• Mechanical Pipework Projects


• Fabrication \& Offsite Manufacturing

From our Bristol operation, we deliver mechanical pipework and associated engineering packages across commercial and industrial projects throughout the UK, working with major clients and Tier 1 contractors.

Alongside our site\-based Projects Division, we have our own fabrication and offsite manufacturing capability, delivering fabricated pipework, specialist welding, plant skids, packaged plant rooms, modular assemblies and bespoke mechanical solutions.

As our project portfolio and manufacturing capability continue to grow, we now need an experienced commercial professional to help us take the next step.

The Opportunity

As the Commercial Manager, you will have commercial responsibility across both our Projects Division and fabrication / offsite manufacturing operations.

You will work closely with the Directors, Contracts Managers, Project Managers, Estimating, Finance, Engineering and Fabrication teams.

Your job is simple to describe:

Make sure we understand the true commercial position of our projects, and act on it.

That means identifying risk early, ensuring change is captured, protecting contractual entitlement, maintaining and improving margin, managing cash flow and driving projects through to successful final account.

This is a senior role with genuine influence across the business.

Key Responsibilities

You will take responsibility for areas including:

• Commercial management of multiple live mechanical engineering projects


• Preparation and ownership of CVRs


• Project forecasting, cost control and margin management


• Contract review and commercial risk


• Variations and change management


• Applications, valuations and payments


• Final account preparation and negotiation


• Extensions of Time, delay and disruption


• Contractual notices and commercial correspondence


• Procurement and subcontractor commercial management


• Cash\-flow forecasting and retention recovery


• Commercial negotiations with clients and Tier 1 contractors


• Ensuring additional works are instructed, recorded and recovered


• Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution


• Tender reviews and commercial input during pre\-construction


• Improving commercial systems, controls and reporting as the business grows

More Than a Traditional QS Role

One of the things that makes this role different is the breadth of Jefferis Engineering.

Your commercial responsibility will extend beyond live construction projects into our fabrication and offsite manufacturing operations.

You will work alongside our workshop, engineering and procurement teams to understand and improve the commercial performance of fabricated and manufactured packages, including labour, materials, specialist welding, bought\-out components, engineering, plant skids, modular assemblies and installation.

If you come from a mechanical, M\&E, pipework, fabrication or specialist subcontractor background, you should find the role both familiar and refreshingly varied.

Your Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in:

• Mechanical / Pipework/construction or building services


• Specialist subcontracting


• Working commercially with Tier 1 contractors


• JCT contracts


• Fixed\-price contracting


• CVRs, forecasting and cost control


• Variations and change management


• Applications and valuations


• Final accounts


• Procurement and subcontractor management


• Delay, disruption and EOTs


• Commercial negotiation


• Managing multiple projects

Strong JCT and fixed\-price contract experience is particularly important for this role.

Experience within mechanical pipework, fabrication, offsite manufacturing or specialist engineering would be a significant advantage.

The Person

Technical commercial experience matters but so does attitude.

We want someone who is commercially astute, confident in negotiation and proactive rather than reactive.

You need to be comfortable challenging where necessary, dealing directly with Tier 1 commercial teams and working closely with Directors and operational teams.

Most importantly, we want somebody who takes ownership.

If something is commercially wrong, we want someone who sees it, understands it and acts on it.

Package

Permanent:
£70,000–£100,000 per annum depending on experience and capability, plus benefits.

LTD Company:
We will also consider an experienced Commercial Manager joining us full\-time on a LTD Company basis. Outside IR35 engagement, with rate to be agreed.
