Commercial Gas Engineers – Self\-Employed / Subcontractor Opportunities
£250–£800 per day \| Own van and tools required
Heathstead is looking for experienced, reliable and professional Gas Safe Registered Commercial Gas Engineers to join our growing subcontractor network.
We provide gas, electrical and maintenance services across London, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas, with additional opportunities available further afield for engineers willing to travel.
We are looking for engineers with commercial gas qualifications and experience to support our expanding workload.
About the Work
The work is mainly commercial reactive breakdowns, fault finding, servicing, repairs and remedial works. There may also be opportunities for planned maintenance, commercial gas safety inspections and installation work, depending on your qualifications and experience.
Typical work may include:
- Commercial boiler breakdowns and fault finding.
- Commercial boiler servicing and maintenance.
- Commercial heating system diagnostics and repairs.
- Commercial gas safety inspections and certification within your qualification scope.
- Reactive commercial gas repairs.
- Remedial works following breakdown diagnosis.
- Plant room servicing and maintenance.
- Planned maintenance across commercial premises.
- Emergency or out\-of\-hours works, where available.
- Commercial installation and replacement works, where suitable.
If a fault cannot be fixed on the first visit, you will be expected to provide a clear job report confirming:
- The fault diagnosed.
- The work carried out.
- Whether any temporary repair was completed.
- Whether the equipment was left operational or safely isolated.
- The parts and follow\-on remedial work required.

Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Valid Gas Safe registration covering the relevant commercial work.
- Relevant commercial gas qualifications.
- Previous experience working on commercial gas appliances and heating systems.
- Their own van, tools and suitable testing equipment.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Strong fault\-finding and diagnostic ability.
- Good communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and professionally.
- A good understanding of health and safety.
- The ability to provide clear job notes, photos and reports.
Please note: Heathstead does not supply a van. You must have your own vehicle, tools and equipment.
Self\-Employed / Subcontractor Role
This role is offered on a self\-employed subcontractor basis.
You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, insurance, vehicle, tools and business expenses.
This opportunity is ideal for commercial gas engineers who already work for themselves and are looking for additional subcontracting work and long\-term working relationships.
Pay
£250–£800 per day, depending on:
- The type and complexity of commercial work completed.
- Your experience and commercial qualifications.
- Travel distance.
- Emergency or out\-of\-hours work.
- The volume of jobs completed.
- Remedial and follow\-on works completed.
