Job description

The Wellbeing and Inclusion team at Edinburgh Napier University is made up of colleague and student facing professionals providing information, guidance and support to our community. The majority of our work is connected to offering a wide range of support services to students and is focused on their retention, progression and successful outcomes.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support to our students, we are currently hiring a CBT/Counsellor on a fixed\-term contract to support the student journey by delivering a range of psychological interventions, including assessments, single\-session therapy, and CBT. The Role:

As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist/Counsellor at Napier, you will be in an excellent position to use your extensive experience in assessing and offering individual CBT to provide professional, sensitive and student\-focused one\-to\-one support to a wide range of students, referring to specialist services as appropriate.

Your experience of working with mental health issues in a trauma\-informed way will serve you well as you undertake service assessments either in person, or safe and confidential video link and/or phone, delivering CBT student\-focused group interventions and psychoeducational workshops.

We anticipate that you are someone who holds best practice in high regard, so you will have the opportunity to contribute to the safeguarding of students accessing services by assisting with delivery of innovative, evidence\-based, psychoeducational and therapeutic CBT group interventions for students, accurately recording and communicating with management and the safeguarding team in line with the service’s Ethical and Data Protection Guidelines.

The aim of the service and the role within it is to enhance the student experience, support retention and student success by working as part of a team to deliver psychological support to students, so if you have the skills, experience and desire to join a team that is delivering and continually developing an innovative, student\-focused service, then we would love to hear from you. What we will need from you:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in CBT or equivalent

  • Extensive experience in assessing and offering individual CBT in person and online

  • Experience of short\-term CBT

  • Experience in trauma\-informed practice/ understanding of trauma responses

  • Experience and understanding of community resources and referral pathways

  • Registered Member of BACP/ BABCP or equivalent and working towards accreditation

  • PVG Membership (or willingness to obtain)
Salary \& Benefits:

Salary: £37,694 \- £46,049 p/a (depending on experience) \+ Pension (Employer contribution of 17\.6%) \- hourly rate plus a holiday pay supplement (1 hour and 15 minutes pay per student\-facing hour)

Contract: Fixed term – 12 months or until 31st August 2027

Hours: 100 Guaranteed hours, however it is likely that overall hours will exceed this, as the hours increases and decreases with service demand.

Paid annual leave based on 41 days (31 days flexible \+ 10 fixed) per annum
