CNC Setter Operator (Milling)
Location: Rotherham (S60).
Salary: £17.61 to £18.64 per hour (circa £36,600 to £38,800 per year).
Contract: Full-time, permanent.
Shifts: Choice of rotating patterns:
Monday to Friday rotating shifts (6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm, 10pm to 6am)
OR a 4-day working week Monday to Thursday (days or nights) giving you a long weekend every week.

Up to £18.64 per hour, full-time earnings, and the option of a 4-day week with a long weekend every week.

A lot of CNC roles end up being either pure operating or constant problem solving because things aren’t set right in the first place.

This isn’t that.

You’ll be working in a structured environment where the expectation is clear. Set the job correctly, monitor it properly, and produce quality parts consistently.

You’ll be joining a large manufacturing site in Rotherham producing components for sectors including defence, rail and heavy engineering. The machines are modern, the work is consistent, and you’re not there to firefight issues all shift.

The shift pattern gives you flexibility depending on how you prefer to work, whether that’s a standard 5-day pattern or a condensed 4-day week.

Both patterns give you full-time hours, with the 4-day option meaning fewer working days without reducing your earnings.

What the role looks like day to day:
You’ll be working on CNC milling machines, setting and running jobs, making adjustments where needed and making sure output stays consistent throughout the shift.

What you will be doing:

  • Setting and operating CNC milling machines.

  • Editing programmes where required.

  • Loading materials and setting tooling correctly.

  • Monitoring performance and making adjustments.

  • Inspecting parts to ensure they meet tolerances.

  • Using measuring equipment to check accuracy.

  • Troubleshooting issues during production.

  • Keeping machines running safely and efficiently.

What they are looking for:
  • Experience as a CNC Setter Operator or CNC Machinist.

  • Experience working with Fanuc controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Confidence using measuring equipment.

  • A practical, problem-solving mindset.

  • Strong attention to detail.

This role suits someone who understands machining and takes ownership of their work. If you’re looking for purely operating work, it won’t be the right fit.

Why people move into this role:
You’re not walking into a disorganised shop floor. This is a well-established operation with consistent work, structured processes and equipment that’s been invested in properly. You’re there to do the job properly, not constantly fix problems that shouldn’t be there.

What you get:

  • £17.61 to £18.64 per hour

  • Circa £36,600 to £38,800 per year based on 40 hours

  • Overtime available

  • 33 days holiday including bank holidays

  • Company pension and life assurance

  • Healthcare scheme

  • Reduced gym membership

  • Monthly incentives and referral bonuses

  • Ongoing training and development

  • Free secure on-site parking
