We are inviting applications to fill our Senior Clinical Fellow with a special interest in Placenta Accreta Spectrum vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Obstetrics \& Gynaecology. This post will commence September 2026 and end in September 2027 and is a fixed term for 1 year.

Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of application.

Job Summary
---------------

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a clinical fellow at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The service is delivered through four sites: St James University Hospital (SJUH), Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), Wharfdale General Hospital and Seacroft Hospital. The above post is suitable for doctors wishing to gain clinical experience at a ST3\-5 level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post offers the successful candidate a wide range of experience in all areas of the specialty. Whilst this post is not recognised for training, the appointee will be supported by a Clinical Supervisor to meet their career and educational goals. Since 2020 LTHT has been one of three regional referral centres in the North of England for the management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) complex obstetric surgery. The PAS team receive referrals from a large geographical area covering most of Yorkshire \& Humber. The diagnostic service is led by fetal medicine consultant Dr Colette Sparey and the surgical service is run by Mr Dileep Wijeratne and Miss Lydia Coade. We also work very closely with colleagues from Anaesthesia, Interventional Radiology, Gynae Oncology, Neonates and Pathology. A fellow working with our team would have the following opportunities:

1\) Development of generic skills in complex obstetric surgery which are applicable to a wide range of situations, not just PAS.

2\) Exposure to diagnostic ultrasound scanning for PAS.

3\) Participation in the analysis of almost 5 years of PAS outcome data with a view to publication.

4\) Helping with the development of educational materials for patients and clinicians focussing on both PAS and the generic surgical management of massive obstetric haemorrhage. The post would be ideally suited for someone who wishes to work in a PAS centre in the future or to lead on undertaking other complex obstetric surgical cases in the DGH setting.

This post includes working on the Second on Call rota with a 1:9 frequency and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in oncall at both St James’s University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary out of hours. Daytime working hours will be split between protected clinical fellow work in line with your specialist interest and providing clinical care in Antenatal clinic, Labour ward, Antenatal Day Unit, Maternity Assessment, Gynaecology clinic, Acute Gynaecology and gynaecology theatres amongst other things. The proposed split of daytime working hours would be 60% clinical fellow time and 40% clinical service time.

The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing) with some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital. Leeds has just been made an Endometriosis centre and there are specialist clinics also in Premature ovarian failure, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology, Complex termination of pregnancy, ambulatory procedures and a PMDD MDT amongst other opportunities. The fertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital. The maternity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500 deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,000 deliveries per year). Leeds Maternity services provide tertiary level care for Fetal medicine and Maternal Medicine. There are a number of specialist antenatal clinics and exciting opportunities to engage with ongoing Quality Improvement work.

All resident doctors will be supported by an educational supervisor and encouraged in their professional development. There is teaching available every Friday afternoon which you will have the opportunity to attend and there is also the opportunity to develop guidelines and Patient information Leaflets as well as perform audits and quality improvement projects. There are also opportunities get involved with undergraduate medical education through Leeds Medical School.

What you will bring to the role
-----------------------------------

The post holder will work at a level equivalent to that of a ST3\-5 trainee and should have experience at working at a ST3\+ level for a minimum of 6 months ideally within the UK. The should be competent to perform operative non rotational deliveries and Caesarean sections.

Applicants must have completed Foundation competencies either as part of the UK Foundation programme or demonstrate equivalent training.

Applicants must have completed MRCOG part 1 to be considered for an ST3\-5 post.

Basic Life Support training is essential.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate leadership skills, clinical competence in obstetrics and gynaecology and experience in clinical education and audit/quality improvement work.

Applicants should have knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology as practiced in the UK with experience working within the UK desirable.
