Philip Lee LLP is seeking an ambitious Associate Solicitor (1\-3 years PQE) to join our growing Climate Projects team. This is a unique opportunity to work on market\-leading matters at the intersection of international climate law, carbon markets, project development, climate finance and sustainability regulation.

The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad mix of transactional, regulatory and advisory work across voluntary and compliance carbon markets, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, climate project development, carbon removals, sustainable aviation fuels, corporate climate strategies and emerging climate technologies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with partners, counsel and senior associates on a wide range of matters, including:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating carbon credit purchase agreements, ERPAs, pre\-purchase agreements, framework supply agreements and offtake arrangements.

  • Advising climate project developers, investors and corporates on project development, financing and investment transactions.

  • Conducting legal and regulatory research on international climate law, carbon markets and evolving climate policy frameworks.

  • Advising clients on regulatory developments, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, CORSIA, the EU ETS, the EU Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming Certification Framework, and related climate initiatives.

  • Assisting with legal due diligence exercises for climate project investments, acquisitions and financing transactions.

  • Preparing client memoranda, regulatory briefings, board papers and strategic advice notes.

  • Reviewing project documentation and advising on legal, regulatory and commercial risk allocation.

  • Supporting host country engagement processes and Article 6 authorisation requirements.

  • Monitoring international market and regulatory developments and preparing client updates and thought leadership content.

  • Participating in client relationship management, business development initiatives, industry working groups and conferences.
Skills and Experience
  • Qualified solicitor in Ireland and/or England \& Wales.

  • 1\-3 years’ post\-qualification experience gained within a leading commercial law firm or relevant in\-house environment.

  • Experience in commercial contracts, corporate transactions, projects, energy, infrastructure, finance, environmental law, ESG or regulatory matters would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • Strong drafting, analytical and legal research skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, sustainability, carbon markets and emerging climate technologies.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a collaborative and fast\-paced international team.

  • Strong commercial awareness and a client\-focused approach.
