This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and creative community engagement individual to play a key role in delivering the activity and audience engagement programme for the Chew Valley Hoard project, which is being principally funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).

The Chew Valley Hoard is the largest Norman coin hoard ever discovered. Its acquisition by the South West Heritage Trust in 2024 has inspired a multi\-stranded project that includes the creation of a new permanent gallery at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton, a year\-long temporary exhibition at the Museum of Somerset, and an ambitious two\-year programme of community engagement, co\-creation and learning activities.

This is a high\-profile project, which is targeted to directly engage 8,787 people across Somerset and beyond and to reach another 682,575 people including through digital means.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in organising and running community engagement events and activities for large and diverse audiences in a museum or comparable cultural setting. With excellent verbal and written communication skills, they will be skilled and experienced in working collaboratively with colleagues, partner organisations and volunteers to deliver successful community engagement activities.

The South West Heritage Trust is an independent charity which provides heritage services across Somerset and Devon. We run two Archive and Local Studies services and three museums, including the Museum of Somerset, and look after Somerset’s historic environment, including over 400 acres of historic landscapes.

We are committed to building an organisation as diverse as the communities we serve. Your application for this role will be welcomed whatever your background and regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and marriage or civil partnership.
