About the role
RSPCA Finchley \& District Branch is an independently run, separately registered charity supporting animal welfare in our local community.
Our charity shops in East Finchley and North Finchley generate vital income that directly funds our local animal welfare work, including veterinary treatment, fostering and rehoming animals in need.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and commercially minded Charity Shop Assistants to join our team.
This is a varied, hands\-on role combining customer service, retail, merchandising, online sales and working with volunteers. We are looking for people who enjoy working with the public, have an eye for what sells and can help us make the most of the generous donations we receive.
What you'll be doing
- Providing excellent customer service to shoppers and donors.
- Serving customers and operating the till.
- Sorting, preparing, pricing and displaying donated stock.
- Creating attractive displays and maintaining high standards of visual merchandising.
- Identifying valuable, designer, vintage, collectible or unusual donated items and researching their potential value.
- Supporting our online sales, including selecting and photographing items, researching prices, creating listings and preparing sold items for dispatch, posting and collection.
- Helping promote stock and shop activities through digital and social media channels, where appropriate.
- Keeping the shops clean, organised, well stocked and welcoming.
- Encouraging donations and building positive relationships with customers and the local community.
- Supporting Shop Managers with the organisation and day\-to\-day supervision of volunteers.
- Opening and closing the shops and providing cover during Shop Manager absence when required.
- Supporting promotions, seasonal campaigns, fundraising activities and community events.
- Following Branch procedures relating to cash handling, banking, health and safety, safeguarding, security and fire safety.
- Working flexibly across our East Finchley and North Finchley shops according to operational requirements.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and confident dealing with customers, donors and volunteers.
- Enthusiastic about retail and motivated to help increase sales.
- Commercially aware, with a good eye for products and presentation.
- Comfortable using computers, smartphones and online platforms.
- Organised, reliable and able to use their own initiative.
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
- Able to support and provide direction to volunteers when required.
- Flexible and able to work across both shops, including weekends and bank holidays as required.
- Supportive of the RSPCA's values and passionate about animal welfare.
Experience or an interest in online selling, fashion and clothing brands, vintage and collectables, visual merchandising, photography, social media or e\-commerce would be particularly welcome.
