Catering Operations Manager
Yellow Bus Catering
Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire
From £32,000 per year \+ 5% uncapped company profit share
Permanent \| Full\-time
About the role
Yellow Bus Catering is looking for a Catering Operations Manager to take ownership of the day\-to\-day operational side of our growing catering business.
We cater at corporate events, private functions, festivals and large\-scale venues across the UK, operating from our American school bus catering units and other mobile setups.
This is a hands\-on management role. We aren't looking for someone who simply wants to supervise a shift. We need someone who can plan, organise and deliver our catering operations from start to finish.
You'll be responsible for making sure the right people, stock, equipment and vehicles are in the right place at the right time — and then making sure the event is delivered properly.
Ultimately, we're looking for someone who can look at an upcoming event and say:
“I've got it.”
And we know it's genuinely got.
You'll take responsibility for the operational delivery of our events, including:
- Planning upcoming catering events from operational handover through to completion
- Managing and supervising catering and event staff
- Organising rotas and staffing requirements
- Managing stock levels and placing supplier orders
- Preparing stock, equipment and catering units for events
- Loading and unloading vehicles
- Driving company vans to and from events
- Setting up catering operations on site
- Running events and services independently
- Managing food preparation, service and close\-down
- Maintaining food safety, allergen and operational records
- Managing the warehouse and keeping stock and equipment organised
- Monitoring stock usage, wastage and labour costs
- Helping control the operational costs of events
- Carrying out equipment and vehicle checks
- Identifying problems before they affect an event
- Dealing with problems that occur during live events
- Making sure everything is ready for the next event
Some days you'll be planning, ordering and organising. Other days you'll be loading vans, working alongside the team, managing a busy service or solving a problem on site.
Who we're looking for
Previous experience in catering, hospitality, events or operations would be a strong advantage, particularly if you've managed teams or been responsible for running events or venues.
However, we're more interested in finding the right person than somebody who ticks every box on paper.
We're looking for someone who is:
- 25\+ (Vehicle Insurance Purposes)
- Holds a full driving licence \& is confident to drive vans
- Reliable and organised
- Comfortable taking responsibility
- Confident managing and motivating a team
- Commercially aware
- Good at planning ahead
- Calm when things don't go to plan
- Able to make decisions independently
- Practical and hands\-on
- Comfortable working at pace
- Good at managing several things at once
- Someone who sees a problem and gets it sorted
You must also be able to reliably travel to our base in Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire.
Working pattern
Event catering doesn't operate Monday\-Friday, 9–5\.
The role will involve weekends, evenings, early starts and some long event days, particularly during our busiest periods.
There will also be quieter periods and days based at our Northamptonshire unit preparing stock, equipment, vehicles and upcoming events.
We work across the UK, with a significant amount of our current event work taking place in London.
Where overnight stays are required, accommodation is provided, and work\-related travel expenses are covered.
Salary \& monthly profit share
£32,000 basic salary
Plus:
5% uncapped monthly company profit share
We want the person helping to run Yellow Bus Catering to directly benefit when the business performs well.
Each month, you'll receive 5% of the company's bottom\-line profit before tax, subject to the terms of the profit\-share scheme.
For example:
For example, if the company makes
- £5,000 profit in a month, your profit share would be £250\.
- £10,000 profit it would be £500
- £20,000 it would be £1,000
- £30,000 it would be £1,500
- £40,000 it would be £2,000
- £50,000 it would be £2,500\.
The principle is simple: if the business performs well, the person helping to run it benefits from that success too.
Where the role can go
This is an important hire for Yellow Bus Catering.
We're not looking for another pair of hands. We're looking for someone who can progressively take ownership of our catering operations.
Initially, you'll work closely with us to learn how everything operates — our events, menus, suppliers, vehicles, equipment, systems and teams.
As you become established in the role, we'll expect you to take increasing responsibility until you're capable of running the day\-to\-day catering operation independently.
For the right person, there's considerable opportunity for the position, responsibility and earnings to grow alongside Yellow Bus Catering.
If you're the sort of person who takes ownership, gets things organised and doesn't need to be chased to get things done, we'd like to hear from you.
