Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated exercise specialist / physiotherapist to join our dynamic multi\-disciplinary Cardiac rehabilitation Team at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to appoint a part\-time band 6 Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise specialist / physiotherapist to start in September 2026\. We are looking for a dynamic, caring and compassionate clinician with excellent communication skills, an ability to work independently, demonstrate evidence of professional development and a keen interest in health promotion. This post requires you to have the motivation and passion to participate in the development and delivery of the hospital, community setting, virtual and home\-based exercise programmes. There will be a requirement to travel within Cambridgeshire to our out\-reach setting in Cambourne.

Main duties, tasks \& skills required
-----------------------------------------

This post requires you to have the motivation and passion to participate in the development and delivery of the hospital, community, virtual and home\-based exercise programmes.

You will be assessing, teaching, and supporting patients in their recovery during the cardiac rehabilitation programmes. This will include one to one clinical assessments of out\-patients including general mobility following their procedure, current functional capacity, and general health in relation to secondary cardiac prevention. You will determine initial exercise prescription, exercise adaption and progression for patients. The role will include leading group exercise and education sessions to patients following cardiac events and procedures, as well as education and support post cardiac events as an in\-patient.

You must have excellent communication and organisation skills along with the ability to be flexible, work under pressure, manage own patient workload, prioritising needs and escalating as required.

We are committed to provide student training and training for our staff. You will have opportunities in audit, promoting our service and highlighting the importance of cardiac rehabilitation.

We will provide support and teaching to enable you to provide excellent patient care across all areas of cardiac rehabilitation.

The post holder will have regular one to ones, clinical supervision, appraisals and competency support.

BSc physiotherapy, Grad. Dip. Physiotherapy, or pre\-registration MSc or

Professional equivalent degree in Exercise Physiology or Sports Science and entered on the British Association of Sport and Exercise Scientist Accreditation

HCPC

BACPR phase IV qualification

Relevant post graduate courses in cardio\-respiratory physiotherapy, exercise physiology or exercise delivery

MCSP

Specialist interest group membership

Experience

Essential

Experience with acute care patients or cardiovascular patients post registration at band 5

Experience of group or individual exercise assessment, prescription/delivery and progression.

Evidence of on\-going professional development

Knowledge of common cardiac conditions and treatment options

Knowledge of basic exercise physiology

Able to demonstrate sound clinical reasoning

Awareness of current cardiorespiratory evidence base and guidelines

Evidence of on\-going professional development.

Evidence of excellent communication skills, including verbal, non\-verbal and written.

Ability to work autonomously and be a team player

Ability to work calmly under pressure

Ability to work independently and prioritise own workload and delegate effectively to others

Ability to problem\-solve and make complex decisions

Experience in cardiac rehabilitation.

Working knowledge of NHS priorities and initiatives
