Café / Bakery Assistant Manager

Our Assistant Café/Bakery Manager plays a key role in supporting the day\-to\-day running of the bakery, helping to maintain the high standards that our customers know and love. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised, detail\-oriented, and passionate about delivering exceptional service. You'll work closely with the General Manager, helping to lead the team, uphold standards, and ensure every part of the operation runs smoothly.

You will be trusted with increasing responsibility and will act as a key leader within the team, stepping into the Manager's role when required and helping ensure the bakery continues to operate smoothly and successfully.

- Support the Café/Bakery Manager in creating a positive, motivated, and high\-performing team culture.
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic at all times.
- Assist with onboarding and training new team members, helping them build confidence and knowledge in their roles.
- Support the ongoing coaching and development of the front\-of\-house team, ensuring standards and procedures are consistently followed.
- Help maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and customer service across all shifts.
- Provide day\-to\-day guidance and support to team members, escalating issues to the Manager where appropriate.
- Take responsibility for leading shifts and making operational decisions when the Manager is not on site.
- Lead from the front by providing warm, friendly, and attentive customer service.
- Ensure customers receive a consistently welcoming and memorable experience.
- Confidently resolve customer concerns and support the team in handling service challenges professionally.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and inviting café environment at all times.
- Assist with the smooth running of daily front\-of\-house operations, including deliveries, product displays, stock rotation, and inventory checks.
- Ensure products are presented beautifully and consistently throughout the day.
- Support coffee quality standards through attention to detail, barista best practices, and equipment care.
- Help oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and to standard.
- Ensure operational instructions and initiatives from the Café/Bakery Manager are implemented effectively and consistently.
- Identify areas for improvement and proactively help solve operational challenges.
- Act as the first point of contact for the team during shifts, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and professionally.
- Be meticulous in ensuring bakery standards, systems, and processes are followed consistently.
- Monitor the quality and presentation of products, ensuring attention to detail in every aspect of the customer experience.
- Help maintain accurate records, checklists, and operational documentation.
- Support stock management processes, helping to minimise waste and maximise efficiency.
- Hold both yourself and the team accountable for maintaining the high standards Wood Street Bakery is known for.
- Encourage a positive selling culture by helping team members confidently share their product knowledge with customers.
- Assist with monitoring sales performance and identifying opportunities to improve customer experience and revenue.
- Support local marketing initiatives and community engagement activities where required.
- Contribute ideas and observations that help improve the bakery's operations and growth.
- Follow and promote all health and safety procedures, ensuring a safe environment for customers and team members.
- Help ensure equipment is maintained, cleaned, and used correctly.
- Support compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and company policies at all times.
- Take an active role in maintaining clean, hygienic, and organised working areas throughout the bakery.
- A strong team player with leadership potential and a desire to progress into management.
