Cafe Assistant
Overview
We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and hardworking Café Assistant to join our team at Maelor Voluntary Service based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. This is a fast\-paced role within a busy hospital environment where cleanliness, excellent customer service, and teamwork are essential.
Working across our three hospital cafés, you will help provide a welcoming service to customers while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness. Due to the location of our cafés, the role involves a significant amount of walking throughout the day.
Hours of Work
- 16 hours per week, worked over 4 days.
- Typical working hours are 10:00am to 2:00pm, Monday to Friday.
- Working days may vary from week to week depending on business needs.
- Additional hours may be available to provide cover during staff holidays and sickness absence.
Previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial but is not essential, as full training will be provided.

- Maintain clean and tidy café tables, ensuring all crockery, cutlery, and equipment are cleaned and sanitised through the correct use of the dishwasher.
- Keep all café seating and customer areas clean, organised, and welcoming at all times.
- Complete cleaning duties as delegated by the Manager and Deputy Manager.
- Carry out daily cleaning schedules to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Empty café waste bins as required and ensure waste is disposed of safely and appropriately.
- Help maintain a safe environment for volunteers, staff members, and customers, adhering to all health and safety procedures.
- Prepare and make fresh rolls, toasties, sandwiches, and other food items as required.
- Clean and restock all café areas daily, ensuring stock is rotated correctly and date checks are completed to minimise waste and maintain food safety standards.
- Demonstrate a full understanding of Natasha’s Law and ensure accurate allergen information is available and communicated to customers.
- Provide support and assistance to volunteers when required across all café locations.
- Cash up tills accurately at the end of trading periods and report any discrepancies to management promptly.
- Restock all vending machines daily, ensuring products are available and presented appropriately.
- Complete all required Food Safety records and documentation on a daily basis.
- Work as part of a team to deliver excellent customer service and maintain a positive café environment.
- Understand and promote safe working practices in accordance with MVS Food Safety, COVID Safety, Health \& Safety, Fire Safety, and Risk Assessment policies.
- Adhere to all BCHUB rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Wear the correct uniform at all times whilst on shift.

As our three cafés are located across different areas of the hospital, the role will involve a significant amount of walking throughout the working day.
We are a charity based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and operate three cafés within the hospital. All proceeds generated from our cafés are used to purchase vital medical equipment that directly benefits patients and supports hospital services.

Qualifications
- Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant environment is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of food safety practices is highly desirable.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Basic culinary skills with an understanding of food preparation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills with a friendly disposition towards customers and colleagues.
- Ability to work as part of a team while also being self\-motivated when required.
- Be able to follow instruction by Senior members of staff
