Stead Accountancy Limited is a growing UK accountancy practice providing accounting, tax, bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and advisory services to sole traders, limited companies, landlords, and owner\-managed businesses across the UK.
As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead client acquisition, develop strategic referral partnerships, increase market visibility, and drive sustainable revenue growth.
This role is critical to the future expansion of the practice and will focus exclusively on commercial growth and business development activities.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional sales role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, developing professional relationships, converting prospective clients into long\-term customers, and strengthening the firm's presence within the SME market.
The role will work closely with the Director, allowing technical accounting and compliance work to remain focused within the practice while the Business Development Manager drives business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Client Acquisition \& Revenue Growth
- Identify and engage prospective clients requiring accountancy, tax, payroll, VAT, bookkeeping, and business advisory services.
- Generate new business opportunities through networking, referrals, direct outreach, digital marketing initiatives, and relationship building.
- Conduct initial consultations with prospective clients to understand their business requirements and introduce relevant services.
- Manage the sales process from enquiry through to signed engagement.
- Develop and maintain a structured pipeline of prospective clients.
- Achieve agreed client acquisition and revenue growth targets.
- Build and maintain referral relationships with:
- Mortgage brokers
- Solicitors
- Independent Financial Advisers
- Estate agents
- Business consultants
- HR professionals
- Start\-up advisers
- Develop mutually beneficial referral arrangements that generate ongoing business opportunities.
- Support the development of marketing campaigns designed to increase awareness of the firm's services.
- Manage business development activities across LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, networking platforms, and professional events.
- Identify opportunities to improve visibility within target markets.
- Represent the practice at networking events, business exhibitions, and local business forums.
- Maintain regular contact with existing clients to identify opportunities for additional services.
- Support client retention initiatives.
- Gather client feedback and identify opportunities for service improvement.
- Strengthen long\-term relationships with key clients and referral partners.
- Produce regular reports on:
- New enquiries
- Conversion rates
- Pipeline activity
- Revenue generated
- Referral performance
- Marketing effectiveness
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and opportunities within the SME sector.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in Business Development, Sales, Relationship Management, or Client Acquisition.
- Proven ability to generate new business and achieve commercial targets.
- Experience managing business development pipelines and converting opportunities into revenue.
- Strong networking and relationship\-building abilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of SME business needs.
- Experience within accountancy, financial services, banking, insurance, consultancy, or other professional services sectors.
- Understanding of the UK SME market.
- Experience developing referral partnerships.
- Knowledge of digital marketing and lead generation strategies.
