Business Development Executive (Freight Forwarding)
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Business Development Executive to join our growing freight forwarding business based in Greenhithe.
This is a sales\-focused role suited to someone currently working within freight forwarding who understands the industry, has strong commercial awareness, and is confident building lasting customer relationships.
You will be responsible for identifying and winning new business, developing long\-term commercial accounts, and acting as a trusted partner to clients by understanding their freight requirements and offering tailored logistics solutions.
This is not a transactional sales environment. We are looking for someone who enjoys relationship\-building, understands the value of long\-term partnerships, and wants to contribute to the growth of an ambitious, close\-knit business.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within freight forwarding and logistics
- Prospect, cold call, network, attend meetings, and actively build a strong sales pipeline
- Visit prospective and existing clients to develop relationships and generate new opportunities
- Build and maintain strong long\-term relationships with customers
- Present and promote our freight services to prospective clients
- Negotiate commercial agreements and successfully onboard new business
- Maintain regular communication with customers to understand requirements and maximise opportunities
- Work closely with internal operational teams to ensure a smooth customer experience
- Attend exhibitions, networking events, and industry meetings where required
- Maintain accurate records of customer activity and opportunities using internal systems
- Current experience in freight forwarding is essential
- Proven experience in business development, commercial sales, or customer relationship management within freight forwarding or logistics
- Strong understanding of freight forwarding operations and supply chain processes
- Confident communicating with clients and building long\-term commercial relationships
- Commercially minded, proactive, and self\-motivated
- Comfortable prospecting for new business and developing opportunities independently
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Google suite.
- Comfortable working in a environment where teamwork and flexibility are important
- Full UK driving licence preferred (but not essential)
