Business Development Consultant – Apprenticeships (Freelance)
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Business Development / Employer Engagement Consultant to identify and bring new employers to the college who may be interested in taking on apprentices through our Digital Sector apprenticeship programmes.
Important – Purpose of the Role
This role is solely focused on identifying, approaching and securing new employer relationships. It is not an apprentice recruitment role.
The freelancer will be responsible for using their own professional networks, business development activities and employer contacts to identify and introduce new employers to the college.
The college will manage the apprenticeship recruitment, enrolment and related processes once an employer opportunity has been established.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and approach new employers who may have an interest in taking on apprentices.
- Use personal and professional networks and other appropriate business development activities to generate new employer leads.
- Establish and develop relationships with prospective employers.
- Introduce employers to the college’s Digital Sector apprenticeship programmes.
- Understand employers’ workforce development needs and identify potential apprenticeship opportunities.
- Introduce and progress suitable new employer opportunities with the college.
- Liaise with relevant college staff to facilitate the handover and progression of employer opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of employer engagement and business development activity.
- Provide regular updates on employer leads, introductions, opportunities and outcomes.
- Deliver agreed business development activities within the agreed timescales.
Experience and Skills
Applicants should have:
- Proven experience in business development, employer engagement, sales, employer partnerships or a related field.
- A demonstrable track record of identifying and developing new business or employer relationships.
- Strong professional networks and the ability to establish relationships with new employers.
- Excellent communication, networking and relationship\-building skills.
- The ability to work independently and generate their own employer leads.
- Strong organisational and record\-keeping skills.
- A professional approach when representing the college and its apprenticeship programmes.
This is a freelance consultancy opportunity, not an employment position with the college.
The agreed rate is £15 per hour for approved freelance services undertaken within the agreed scope of work.
Payment will be based on hours of freelance services delivered and approved. All freelance work and payment will be subject to the agreed terms of engagement and the college’s Purchase Order (PO) and payment processes.
The freelancer will be responsible for managing their own time and workload while meeting agreed deliverables, deadlines and quality standards. All work must be authorised in accordance with the college’s agreed processes.

The successful applicant will be required to provide satisfactory references as part of our safer recruitment process. Where the nature of the agreed freelance services requires a DBS check, the freelancer will be required to complete the appropriate level of DBS check before undertaking those services. The requirement will be determined by the duties agreed with the college and in accordance with the college’s safeguarding responsibilities and procedures.
