Overview

As a Pall Mall Medical housekeeper, you will ensure the company premises are always presentable, well maintained, clean and tidy to provide the best service to our patients. The job holder will ensure all aspects of housekeeping are undertaken and completed in a timely manner. As this is a bank position, we are looking for someone who thrives on a variety of shifts and is flexible. The position is being advertised to cover for current staff when required, including annual holidays and sickness/other absences \- sometimes with very little notice. Shifts will vary across 7 days per week and may be any hours between 7am and 9pm. We require someone who is reliable, conscientious and able to work alone if needed. This is a good way to gain knowledge and experience of Pall Mall and may lead to future permanent employment.

Pall Mall is a well\-known, long established, private healthcare provider specialising in cosmetic procedures. The hospital is based in Newton\-le\-Willows with other sites in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Leeds. You will be based at the Newton\-le\-Willows site.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties

  • · Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in all departments; Lobbies, corridors, toilets, wards, theatres, kitchens, conference room, admin and reception areas, staff areas and stairs \- Including outside areas – car park, bin area and front and back entrances. Ensure any debris rubbish or hazard is removed from these areas.

  • · Ensure that all areas of Pall Mall Medical are clean and presentable in accordance with the specification laid down.

  • · Glass work on all floors to be maintained and cleaned daily – including on stairs.

  • · Bring all delivered scrubs down from theatre changing rooms and ensure these are correctly organised in the linen trolley.

  • · Ensure any dirty scrubs are placed in soiled linen trolleys.

  • · Collate all used gowns, bed linen and scrubs and organise in the utilities room accordingly, ensuring we are fully stocked for the surgical list for the following 2 weeks.

  • · Empty large clinical bins from theatre sluice and ensure these are cleaned and returned for next use.

  • · To be responsible for the safe removal of clinical waste from the theatre sluice or wards. Ensure this is stored safely and is correctly recycled in the outside bin store.

  • · Clean and damp wipe all patient rooms – prioritising newly vacated rooms when requested by ward team \- and check stock is maintained.

  • · Maintain general cleanliness of ward area as and when requested by ward staff including changing rooms and bin areas. Ensure floor is swept and mopped in line with health and safety requirements.

  • · Check all mattresses and complete any unmade beds.

  • · Clean all ward rooms\` equipment, ensuring any damaged equipment is removed and reported to relevant person on duty.

  • · Ward \- Maintain and clean trolleys, admin desks, and stock white aprons and other consumables.

  • · Ensure a check of all showers on each floor and they are ran for 10 minutes each Monday.

  • · Maintain all showers and kettles and ensure they are descaled once a month.

  • · Complete hourly checks of each toilet facility on company premises – cleaning and re\-stocking where necessary.

  • · Replace bed rolls for MRI, X\-ray and clinical rooms when required.

  • · Always maintain cleanliness and tidiness in kitchens; to include emptying the dishwasher and putting all clean cutlery and crockery away and placing any dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

  • · Ensure the dishwasher is full before putting on a wash cycle.

  • · Deep clean dishwasher and fridges in kitchens as required.

  • · Replace and replenish all clinical bins, staff bins, shredders.

  • · Damp wipe all keyboards, screens, admin and clinical desks on all floors and mop, dust and wipe all surfaces as appropriate.

  • · Support conference room set up and preparation when requested.

  • · Check and ensure we have adequate stock of patient and staff sundries \- for 2 weeks minimum e.g. butter, biscuits, tea, coffee cereal, soups etc.

  • · Ensure patients\` and staff sundries are date checked to comply with food hygiene regulations.

  • · Receive laundry deliveries twice a week and sundries as and when, putting stock away according to procedures.

  • · Inform procurement of stock levels and consumables to ensure they are always available.

  • · Ensure all broken or damaged equipment is reported to the hospital manager and removed from use.

  • · Ensure all fire doors remain closed reporting any issues to the hospital manager.

  • · Ensure you comply with the uniform policy and present yourself in a professional manner.

  • · Ensure effective, respectful, communication between all colleagues, staff, patients, visitors and consultants \- always \- ensuring you comply with any company policies and procedures to ensure a professional working environment for all.

  • · To be aware of and responsible to the changing nature of Pall Mall Medical and adopt a flexible and proactive approach to work.

  • · Attend and/or complete any mandatory training courses to ensure compliance and maintain skills and knowledge.

  • · To maintain the colour coded procedures for compliance and infection control requirements.

  • · Complete and record weekly and monthly checklists to include tap flushes for legionella, shower flushes, bedlinen checks, kettle and shower head descales.

  • · Complete and submit end of day compliance checks online.

  • · Record and submit hours on daily timesheets online.

  • · Any other duties deemed necessary to the business.
Infection prevention and control

Infection prevention and control is the responsibility of all Pall Mall Medical staff. All duties relating to the post must be carried out in accordance with Pall Mall Medical hand hygiene and infection and control policies and procedures.

Health and Safety

You have a legal responsibility not to endanger yourself, your fellow employees and others by your individual acts or omissions. The post holder is required to comply with the requirements of any policy or procedure issued in respect of minimising the risk of injury or disease.

Data Protection

Attention is drawn to the confidential nature of the information collected within the company. The unauthorised use or disclosure of patient or other information is a dismissible offence and in the case of computerised information, could result in prosecution or action for civic damage under the Data Protection Act 1998

Risk Management

The post holder should be aware of the process for reviewing systems and improving them, to increase patient safety and improve service provided by the company. All staff should have an awareness of the risk management processes and an understanding of risk management. This includes assessing, monitoring and managing all aspects of risk, including the planning and undertaking of any remedial action.

All staff will be expected to fully participate in the appraisal/ performance management process. This obligation will include the preparation for and attendance at appraisal/ performance management interviews and completion of the associated documentation.

It is the responsibility of all employees to work within the security policies and procedures of Pall Mall Medical to project the patients, staff and visitors and the property of PMM. This duty applies to the specific work area of the individual and the company in general. All staff are required to wear official identification badges.

The company promotes a No Smoking Policy as part of the employee’s healthy living style. You will be required to work within the framework of this statement. Smoking is not permitted within the company's premises.

Experience

  • Prior experience in commercial or hospital cleaning would be beneficial but is not definitive as full training will be given.

  • Experience working in hospital environments is considered an advantage due to familiarity with strict hygiene standards.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to cleaning procedures is beneficial.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
