*Would you like to help educate and develop tomorrow’s architects to take responsibility for the landscapes, cities, and buildings of the future in a time marked by change and ecological crisis? And would you like, through research and in collaboration with students, to help develop the imagination as a driving force for a more beautiful and responsible architecture?*

*Do you want to work in strong, polyphonic communities where teaching, research, and practice meet? And would you like to be part of an environment where collaboration across disciplines, generations, and perspectives is essential for creating architecture that is sustainable, inclusive, and grounded in reality?*

Aarhus School of Architecture invites applications for an assistant professorship focusing on the artistic methods of architecture and the transformation processes in our landscapes and cities. The position is part of the school’s strategic commitment to strengthening the discussion of a more beautiful architecture – understood as an exploration of aesthetic values in relation to the planetary, societal, and spatial challenges of our time.

In the coming years, Aarhus School of Architecture will place particular emphasis on transformation and artistic method. Across scales, typologies, and subject areas, our initiatives are based on this focus as well as related fields such as historical awareness, resource responsibility, technological understanding, and aesthetic resonance. In this context, the assistant professorship is expected to contribute to developing new perspectives on the connection between the ecological dynamics of landscapes and the materiality of architecture, as well as to visualizing these through artistic development.

We are therefore seeking a candidate with strong competencies in artistic development as well as relevant research and teaching experience rooted in an urban and landscape\-oriented approach to architecture.

The position is affiliated with Research Lab 1 and the environment surrounding the Center for Emerging Landscapes, while also contributing to the development of an academic cluster within artistic methods, where established research environments are connected with new voices.

Your qualifications

The focus area of the assistant professorship is the transformation of landscapes and cities viewed from historical, contemporary, and future perspectives. Here, concepts and understandings of nature are important prerequisites for setting directions for these transformations, whether in urban or rural areas, cultivated or built.

The methodological foundation of the position lies within the artistic methods of architecture and architectural research, as a way of opening the field through concrete spatial and aesthetic investigations and as a means of creating new insights and opportunities for action. These are connected to critical agendas in a world facing climate and biodiversity crises, resource scarcity, and demographic and social challenges.

We are seeking a new colleague with strong professional expertise, who has both the ability and the desire to communicate and collaborate. A colleague who can navigate the significant shifts in scale that characterize the field and bring design, spatial understanding, and sensory awareness into play based on a new ecological understanding of the transformation processes of landscapes and cities.

We expect that you possess strong architectural competencies and hope that you also bring insight into current practices viewed from a climate perspective, as well as an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration.

We expect that you have the will and desire to contribute to both existing projects and approaches, as well as to introduce new perspectives and areas of development connected to the school’s strategy and the disciplines represented in Research Lab 1 and Center for Emerging Landscapes.

The assistant professorship

An assistant professorship is a full\-time career development position in which the main responsibilities are research and teaching in a 50/50 distribution. In addition, the position will to a limited extent include administration, vision development, and cross\-institutional and external collaboration. Aarhus School of Architecture will ensure that the assistant professor receives supervision and opportunities for pedagogical development.

The position is advertised as a fixed\-term appointment for three years.

The position is expected to be filled from 1 October 2026 or as otherwise agreed.

Salary and terms of employment will follow the collective agreement for academics (AC agreement).

Affiliation of the position

The assistant professorship will be affiliated with the school’s Research Lab 1 and, by further agreement, Center for Emerging Landscapes.

The teaching component of the position will span courses and studios across both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programme. Teaching will include assignment planning, studio teaching, lectures, workshops, study trips, study circles, and interdisciplinary courses within the academic field of the position.

The research component of the position will be oriented both theoretically and conceptually within the academic field of the assistant professorship, as well as toward the development of artistic methods.
