Assistant Manager
Assistant Manager \| The Conifers, Fordham, Colchester
Ready to lead with heart, bring fresh ideas and make a real difference every day?
A rare opportunity has opened in the management team at The Conifers, an independent residential service for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. We’re looking for an Assistant Manager who gets energy from helping people thrive both the people we support and the colleagues who support them.
Our home sits in a beautiful rural setting, with a large garden, personal allotments where clients grow their own produce, and a heated outdoor swimming pool. Alongside a six\-person bungalow, we have two recently built, purpose\-designed flats for people with complex needs. We run a meaningful activity programme that helps clients take part in their community, learn new skills and pursue their interests.
The Conifers has been rated Good across all five CQC key questions—safe, effective, caring, responsive and well\-led—since opening in 2016\. We’re proud of the relationships we’ve built with the multidisciplinary teams around us. Now we want to build on that foundation: give clients more opportunities to shape their days, help staff grow in confidence and skill, and keep raising the quality of the support we provide. This is your opportunity to make a difference you can see every day: helping clients enjoy more choice and connection, giving staff the support to grow, and help shape what The Conifers becomes next.
Your opportunity
You’ll work closely with our Manager and a supportive leadership team that includes a Quality Compliance Consultant, Training Manager, Finance Director, and our Owner/Director and Nominated Individual. You’ll lead from the front, build trust with clients, families and colleagues, and help turn good ideas into better outcomes.
Your work will include coaching and developing staff, supporting safe and person\-centred care, maintaining strong safeguarding and quality practices, and managing performance when needed. You’ll also need the confidence to take part in grievance and disciplinary processes. We’re looking for someone who brings warmth and kindness to the role, makes sound decisions and helps the team keep improving.
You’ll bring:
- Experience leading people in adult social care and a genuine commitment to people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
- An RQF/NVQ Level 4 or QCF Level 4 City \& Guilds qualification involving workplace observation and an evidence portfolio.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge, a commitment to required training and the confidence to support quality and compliance.
- Flexibility within a 39\-hour working week and a willingness to share regular on\-call duties once trained and familiar with the role.
We cannot consider applicants who are unable to fulfil these driving duties.
What you can expect from us
You’ll join a team that takes development seriously. At The Conifers, we support qualifications from Levels 2 to 5 and provide ongoing mandatory and specialist training, including safeguarding, mental capacity, inclusive communication, Oliver McGowan training, first aid responder, fire marshal training and more. We can also support you towards the City \& Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Leading and Managing an Adult Care Service, should you need it.
Salary is negotiable, depending on your qualifications and experience. You’ll take part in on\-call duties once you’re trained and familiar with what’s expected. The successful applicant will need an enhanced DBS check; The Conifers will cover the disclosure cost.
If you’re ready to bring your ideas, your leadership and your whole self to a role where they’ll count, we’d love to hear from you.
