About the role:

The School of Engineering and Computing at the University of Lancashire is home to a vibrant and growing community of students and staff across a broad range of Engineering disciplines including aerospace, mechanical, and motorsport. We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, with specific interest in Motorsport/Automotive Engineering, to support teaching and contribute to a high‑quality student learning experience within the mechanical engineering provision.

The School delivers teaching and research across Mechanical, Aerospace, and Motorsport Engineering, with a strong emphasis on industry‑engaged learning, applied research, and real‑world impact. Within Mechanical Engineering, there is an increasing integration with automotive and motorsport applications, including vehicle dynamics, powertrain systems, aerodynamics, lightweight structures, and high‑performance materials aligned to race and road vehicle development, alongside advanced manufacturing processes relevant to both automotive production and motorsport innovation.

The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to structured module delivery and to provide high‑quality academic and pastoral support within the subject area. The post holder will contribute to the assessment of credit‑bearing work and provide timely, constructive feedback, both formally and informally, to support student learning and professional development our engineering provision.

This appointment will play a key role in delivering high‑quality teaching and research, contributing to curriculum development in engineering, supporting student progression and employability, and enhancing the overall student experience across Engineering programmes.

The role is offered on a full time basis for a fixed term of 1 year, based in Preston.

About you:

You will have relevant experience in an academic environment and will demonstrate a strong commitment to high‑quality teaching and student support. You will be IT‑literate, able to work effectively on your own initiative, and contribute positively as part of a collaborative academic team.

You will hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject, together with a PhD (or near completion in a relevant area.
