We're looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager to join the team at The Hawthorn in Shepherd's Bush.

The Hawthorn is a busy, independent neighbourhood pub with a loyal local following. We're a proper London local: great beer, very good wine, classic cocktails, excellent food and, above all, genuinely warm hospitality.

This is a busy operation where standards matter. We're looking for someone who loves being on the floor, enjoys leading a team and understands what makes a great neighbourhood pub tick.

This is an opportunity to work alongside the General Manager and take real ownership of the day\-to\-day operation, while developing your skills and experience within a growing independent pub group.

The Role

As Assistant General Manager, you'll work closely with the General Manager to lead the team and ensure The Hawthorn continues to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

You'll be a visible presence on the floor, leading from the front and helping create the atmosphere that makes The Hawthorn a great local.

You'll take responsibility for the pub in the General Manager's absence and will be trusted with increasing levels of responsibility as you develop.

This is a hands\-on management role for someone who enjoys the pace and energy of a busy London pub and wants to be part of its continued success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the General Manager with the day\-to\-day running of the pub

  • Leading the front\-of\-house team during busy services

  • Delivering consistently warm, knowledgeable and professional hospitality

  • Maintaining high standards across service, presentation and cleanliness

  • Training, coaching and developing team members

  • Supporting recruitment and onboarding

  • Assisting with rotas, labour control and day\-to\-day people management

  • Supporting stock management, ordering and minimising wastage

  • Managing opening and closing procedures

  • Taking responsibility for the pub in the General Manager's absence

  • Building strong relationships with regular guests and the local community

  • Working closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure consistently excellent service

  • Identifying opportunities to improve the operation and helping implement them
Who we're looking for

You'll ideally have experience as a:

  • Assistant General Manager

  • Assistant Manager

  • Deputy Manager

  • Duty Manager

  • Experienced Supervisor ready to take the next step
More importantly, you'll be someone who:
  • Has genuine experience in busy, quality\-led pubs

  • Loves proper hospitality and understands what makes a great local

  • Leads from the front and enjoys being on the floor

  • Is confident managing a team during busy services

  • Has excellent standards and attention to detail

  • Is commercially aware and understands the importance of labour, stock and operational controls

  • Enjoys developing people and bringing out the best in a team

  • Is calm, organised and positive under pressure

  • Wants to progress and build a long\-term career in hospitality
