Assistant Commercial Manager – IT

Location: London, Manchester, Suffolk
Contract: Permanent, full\-time.

Closing Date: 30th September 2026

Overview
The ‘Assistant Commercial Manager – IT \& Digital’ is responsible for commercial delivery against agreed procurement strategies, providing support to the Category Manager in meeting the category’s objectives, predominantly across the IT and Digital portfolio. Strong experience in developing and implementing technology procurement and category strategies and leading on commercial negotiations. Ability to apply appropriate challenge through effective stakeholder engagement with SZC digital stakeholders. Managing strategic supplier relationships and ensuring robust governance throughout the contract lifecycle, whilst driving continuous improvement and best practice.

Your Impact
Our Commercial IT \& Digital team plays a key role in enabling delivery and construction to support one of the UK's largest and most exciting infrastructure projects. The Assistant Commercial Manager is a key role in delivering end\-to\-end procurement and commercial activities across SZC's Digital portfolio. Working autonomously across sourcing and contract management activities, you will lead procurement exercises from strategy development through to contract award and execution, whilst acting as a trusted commercial advisor to stakeholders and managing key supplier relationships.

Accountabilities

  • Support and lead on sourcing and procurement activities from strategy development through to contract award, execution, and implementation.

  • Conduct commercial and contractual negotiations with suppliers, effective management of commercial risk, whilst securing value\-for\-money outcomes.

  • Adopt commercial best practice approaches and lessons learnt in all procurement activities undertaken to drive continuous improvement.

  • Manage commercial aspects of contracts throughout the contract lifecycle, including contract amendments, extensions, change control, and dispute resolution.

  • Acting as cost consciousness of the business to stakeholders across IT, Digital, Legal, Finance and other business functions, supporting delivery of business objectives.

  • Work collaboratively as the conduit with Legal to negotiate contractual / commercial positions, ensuring risks are appropriately assessed, mitigated, and governed.

  • Maintain accurate procurement records and reporting dashboards.

  • Manage supplier relationships and support supplier performance management activities to drive continuous improvement and successful contract delivery.

  • Coordinate commercial governance activities, including preparation of approval papers and ensuring compliance with organisational governance frameworks.

  • Support the development and implementation of category strategies, market analysis and supplier segmentation activities to drive long\-term value.

Knowledge \& Skills

  • Track record in supporting/leading IT procurement and commercial activities, including supplier negotiations and contract management.

  • Proven ability in stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Experience negotiating and managing high\-value, complex contracts across multiple stakeholders and suppliers.

  • Robust understanding of commercial law and contractual terms.

  • Awareness of contract performance measurement, commercial risk management and change.

Qualifications \& Experience
  • The post holder should ideally hold graduate / post graduate qualification(s) related to Supply Chain or MCIPS accreditation is preferable.

  • Experience working in cross\-functional teams and advising senior management

  • Demonstrated managing supplier relationships and performance throughout the contract lifecycle, with the ability to build effective partnerships whilst maintaining appropriate commercial tension.

  • Understanding of developing and managing cross\-functional relationships across a complex portfolio of responsibilities.

  • Experience in working with commercial systems – tools covering activities like eSourcing (Jaggaer) Purchase to Pay (SAP 4 HANA, Oracle) and Contract Management (CEMAR, Unifier).
