The role

Reporting to the Head of Data Platforms and Analytics, the Analytics and Automation Test Engineer is responsible for delivering structured, end\-to\-end testing across a broad portfolio of platforms and solutions within the Data Platforms and Analytics function. Operating as a shared resource across multiple delivery teams, the role plays a critical part in safeguarding quality, reducing defects in production, and ensuring that data, integration, analytics, and automation outputs consistently meet business expectations.

This position requires both technical breadth and a meticulous, structured approach to test design and execution, enabling the role to flex across diverse technologies including Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Tableau, Power BI, integration tooling, Python, R, and UiPath. The Analytics and Automation Test Engineer will be comfortable context\-switching between teams, picking up new platforms quickly, and tailoring testing approaches to the technology and risk profile of each delivery.

The Analytics and Automation Test Engineer will champion a culture of quality across the department, fostering relationships with each delivery team and continuously evolving testing practices – including thorough and thoughtful adoption of AI tooling to enhance, speed, coverage and rigour.

Location: Letchworth. All members of the Technology organisation are “Remote Workers”, working in a hybrid capacity at home, the office, or any other relevant location, depending on the needs of the business.

Key accountabilities

• Plan, design, and execute functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing across multiple delivery teams within Data Platforms and Analytics (Data Platform, Middleware, Analytics AI and Automation).


• Develop and maintain test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test data sets aligned to each platform’s delivery cadence and risk profile.


• Test data warehouse, lakehouse, and reporting outputs built on Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Tableau, and Power BI — verifying data accuracy, performance, and visualisation correctness.


• Test integrations and middleware flows, validating end\-to\-end data movement, transformations, error handling, and exception scenarios.


• Test RPA processes developed in UiPath, validating happy\-path execution, exception handling, performance, and adherence to documented business rules.


• Write SQL queries and lightweight Python scripts to validate data, reconcile source\-to\-target movement, and support root cause analysis.


• Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing standards, tooling, and automation across the Data Platforms and Analytics function.


• Build and evolve AI\-assisted UI test automation by pairing LLMs with browser automation frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright). Act as a quality champion across teams, promoting good practice in testability, requirements clarity, and defect prevention.


• Undertaking any other duties across the teams which may be requested by Management, for which training and/or an explanation has been provided and understood.

• Excellent communication skills.


• 3\+ years as a Test Analyst, QA Analyst, or similar role, ideally with exposure to data, integration, analytics, or automation projects.


• Strong understanding of testing methodologies including functional, regression, integration, and UAT testing across both waterfall and agile delivery models.


• Proficient in SQL and comfortable querying relational databases.


• Working knowledge of at least one scripting language for data validation or test automation (Python preferred; R also valuable).


• Hands\-on Experience with cloud platforms


• Familiarity with modern AI approaches to testing


• Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.


• Excellent written and verbal communication, with proven ability to engage both technical and non\-technical audiences.


• Comfortable working across multiple concurrent workstreams and prioritising effectively as a shared resource.


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
