The Learning Disabilities team within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has a wonderful opportunity for an Allied Health Profession Assistant

In the role you will engage young people and their carers in co\-produced/planned therapy programmes and encourage them in a compassionate manner, towards achieving their identified goals and to promote independence and well\-being through a client centred approach.

You will use clinical judgement to support the implementation of the intervention packages with consultation from the Allied Health Professional (AHP).

The aim of the role is to

  • To promote at all times a positive image of people with a learning disability.

  • To promote at all times a positive image of the AHP service and the wider Trust.
If you have an AHP Assistant qualification and experience of supporting people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities/ autism we would love to hear from you.

Carries own case load which remains the responsibility of the registered Occupational Therapist \& Speech and Language Therapist. Young people may exhibit distress or have difficult family situations of relevance. Engage young people with the whole AHP Therapy process, including contributing to assessments, interventions and evaluation, feeding back the findings to registered Occupational Therapist \& Speech and Language Therapist. Under guidance, demonstrate knowledge and application of theory into practice.

Assesses and manages risk effectively in clinical and community settings.

Develops and implements session plans for young people, within a treatment programme prescribed by a registered Occupational Therapist \&/ or Speech and Language Therapist.

Monitors young person progress making adjustments to activities (within established parameters) and feeding back to the registered Occupational Therapist \& Speech and Language Therapist in a timely and appropriate manner.

Uses technical and creative skills to engage young people in therapeutic activities and encourages young people/carers to support them in achieving their identified goals.

Provides information and practical advice, within scope of own competency to young people and carers and other healthcare/education/social care staff involved in young people’ care.
