CARA is looking for a female Advocacy Volunteer to support our Advocacy Co\-ordinator in providing advocacy support to victims and survivors of any kind of sexual violence. You would have an allocated case load, and work would include support around housing, finances, health, domestic abuse and other issues.

Working flexible hours (ideally a minimum of 5 hours a week) the Advocacy Volunteer will be based initially within theCARA offices in central Colchester, with potential to work from home as agreed with the Advocacy Manager.

No formal qualifications required. Full training and support will be provided, and travel and other expenses will be paid.

The volunteer will be line\-managed by CARA’s Advocacy Manager and will work alongside the very friendly CARA team.

Our Advocacy team support CARA’s clients with a wide range of advocacy issues. The main tasks are to hold a small caseload and support victims and survivors of sexual violence with:

  • Accessing benefits, including filling in forms.

  • Accessing services, including mental health, housing and legal services, and accompanying to appointments, if necessary.

  • Providing and signposting to financial support and debt advice.

  • Accessing appropriate support at school / college/work.

  • Emotional support, including aspects of self\-care strategies and psycho education.

  • Providing occasional support for CARA’s face to face and/or online social group

What we expect from the volunteer:
  • An open and non\-judgemental attitude.

  • A commitment to empowering victims and survivors of sexual violence.

  • A willingness to commit the necessary time to supporting vulnerable clients.

  • Reliability.

  • A willingness to work in accordance with CARA policies and procedures.

  • Attendance at monthly line\-management meetings.

This volunteer role is open to women only and is exempt from the Equality Act (2010\) under Schedule 9, Part 1\.

CARA (Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse) works with victims and survivors of sexual violence and child sexual abuse, providing independent, specialist support and promoting and representing their rights and needs.

CARA is a registered charity working with adult women and men, young people (aged 13\-19\) and children aged 12 and under from across mid and north Essex.

Pay: £1\.00 per year
