About the Role
Are you a Finance Professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role in a prestigious and complex organisation? The University of York is seeking a highly motivated Accountant to join our Finance team.
By design this role is suitable for a finance generalist, this position will work across both Management Accounting and Financial Accounting to support where colleagues are working on a Finance/HR system implementation. As such, this would suit a finance professional seeking to broaden their professional experience or looking to move into the Higher Education sector. On a day\-to\-day basis this role may include:
- preparation of financial reports and reconciliations
- processing adjustments through the accounting system
- review and reconciliation of funding body grants, tuition fees and other income
- assist senior Professional Services / Faculty finance staff in the production of financial projections, and monthly variance analysis
- liaise and provide information to the Group’s financial auditors.

The Finance Department provides a key service to the University of York including:
- the provision of high quality management information to support decision making
- efficient transaction services for our students, staff, departments and external stakeholders
- a professional purchasing service for departments, ensuring we achieve value for money
- a reporting and control framework to support all the University's financial activities

Skills, Experience \& Qualifications needed
- AAT qualified or working towards accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or relevant experience
- Preparation of financial reconciliations
- A high degree of attention to detail and solution orientated
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting practices and procedures used in large complex organisations
- Good understanding of financial processes, procedures and regulations
- Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list.) We also welcome applicants with equivalent non\-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- Taking ownership for / Hold a significant role in the delivery of distinct pieces of work e.g. leading a project
- Gather, analyse, interpret and report complex data/information
- Use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools
