Job Overview

The Account Director will drive new business growth through a combination of account mining and external hunting strategies. They will lead the development and implementation of account strategies, plans, and budgets for specific customers to achieve agreed business objectives. This will involve building and maintaining strong relationships with all customers and potential customers, understanding their evolving needs and requirements, and collaborating closely with all departments to ensure customer needs are met efficiently and effectively.

Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Account Director to lead a team across the variety of sectors and product offerings in which we operate. As an Account Director, you will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of key client existing accounts, while also leading and providing guidance to a team of Account Managers. You will play a crucial role in developing and executing strategic account plans, ensuring client satisfaction, and driving business growth within your assigned accounts.

Reporting directly to the SVP of Supply Chain, the Account Director is required to take responsibility for commercial leadership within the UK business; strategic planning, driving change, supporting business development and commercial selling, customer satisfaction and overall responsibility for ensuring existing and new contracts are delivered.

The individual will be able to demonstrate successful leadership of the commercial functions in a B2B environment that is heavily customer centric and where complex contract negotiation, implementation of change and account management are commonplace.

The challenge requires a strategic thinker, resilience, great leadership and people skills and the ability to challenge the status quo.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship \& Account Management

  • Develop and maintain senior\-level relationships with key client stakeholders.

  • Act as the primary commercial point of contact for strategic accounts.

  • Understand client supply chain requirements, operational challenges, and growth plans.

  • Conduct regular business reviews to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Account Growth \& Commercial Development
  • Drive revenue growth through product sales, service expansion, and managed supply chain solutions.

  • Identify opportunities for upselling and cross\-selling logistics services, value\-added solutions, and product ranges.

  • Develop and implement account growth strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Support new business opportunities within existing client organisations.
Supply Chain \& Operational Alignment
  • Work closely with operations, procurement, warehousing, and transport teams to ensure service delivery meets contractual and performance requirements.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, cost reduction, and service enhancement.

  • Manage escalations and ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
Commercial \& Financial Management
  • Own account profitability, pricing strategy, and margin performance.

  • Lead commercial negotiations, contract renewals, and service agreements.

  • Monitor forecasts, budgets, and performance against revenue targets.

  • Ensure accurate pipeline management and reporting.
Leadership \& Collaboration
  • Lead and support Account Managers and internal stakeholders across departments.

  • Foster strong cross\-functional collaboration between sales, operations, and supply chain teams.

  • Provide strategic direction to account teams to ensure consistent delivery.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Significant experience in account management or commercial roles within logistics, supply chain, or product distribution environments.

  • Strong understanding of managed supply chain models, logistics operations, and product\-based sales.

  • Demonstrated experience managing large or complex client accounts.

  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to translate operational requirements into commercial solutions.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
