The Role

To scope and coordinate the implementation and ongoing monitoring of mandatory national surveillance programmes relating to surgical site infection. To provide a focal point for the coordination of enhanced surveillance programmes targeting locally defined priorities.

To coordinate and provide meaningful, informative and timely surveillance data and reports for the purpose of critical analysis and assessment which have the potential to enhance patient/client clinical outcomes. To contribute to the development and implementation of a programme of clinical audit and research activity

In this key role, you will:


  • Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients to ensure delivery of a high standard of care.

  • Maintain effective communications with patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.

  • Knowledge of all relevant National and Local Policies, legislation, procedures, PREP, etc

  • Work within, and adhere to, defined National policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the Ward, Directorate and Division.

  • Be fully compliant with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant guidance documents, which support and maintain standards of professional practice.

  • Organise own and more junior staff workload and utilise time management skills to ensure that the interests of patients/clients are met.

What You'll Bring:


  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration

  • The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative

  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Working knowledge of basic information technology
